In Borderlands 3 an old acquaintance returns, who initially had nothing to his name. Now he owns an entire planet.
In a few weeks, the long-awaited release of Borderlands 3 is finally coming. This much-anticipated loot shooter continues the story of its predecessors and brings back some characters from Tales From The Borderlands. The main character of the game, Rhys, is also back in action – in his new role as CEO of Atlas.
Who is Rhys? Rhys was one of the protagonists from Tales from the Borderlands. At that time, he was still an employee of Hyperion, but always aimed to step into the shoes of Handsome Jack. He almost succeeds too well because an AI modeled after Handsome Jack ends up in his cyborg components and tries to carry out its own plans.
Although Rhys was portrayed as a “loser” in the game, he evolves into a calculating and witty hero, who ultimately reaps his reward – control over the Atlas corporation.
What is Rhys’ role in Borderlands 3? In Borderlands 3, Rhys is the current CEO of the mega-corporation Atlas. Thus, Rhys is also on the planet Promethea, where Atlas’s main base is located.
Here, for the first time, the technique of the Eridians was found, the strange aliens from Borderlands 1. Atlas decoded this technology and created their own weapons from it.
Other familiar heroes are also back – like Tiny Tina!
The planet Promethea is currently under the control of Rhys and Atlas, although the weapon manufacturer is in open war with Maliwan (another arms manufacturer). Aside from that, there are also plenty of other creatures on Promethea that want to dominate the city planet and assault the automated turrets of the weapon manufacturers.
Rhys has a funny last name: The trailer also revealed the long-unknown last name of Rhys: Strongfork, which translates to something like “Strong Fork”. Whether this rather strange name has a backstory, we will surely learn during Borderlands 3, as players will likely have quite a bit to do with Rhys.
