The Twitch streamer Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp (27) made a name for himself with his toxic behavior in League of Legends. In Blizzard’s new shooter Overwatch 2, he apparently hasn’t even had the chance to do so, as he has already been banned in the chat just 10 days after release.
Who is Tyler1?
- Tyler is one of the biggest and most influential streamers of LoL – when he really gets upset about a bug, Riot apparently reacts promptly
- On Twitch, he has over 5 million followers who love him for his outbursts
- However, Tyler’s behavior has also repeatedly had consequences: in LoL, he was even completely banned for a time
- He recently found out live in a stream that he has already received a chat ban in Overwatch 2 – before he can even start a game
Tyler managed to become the figurehead of the game after his supposed perma-ban in LoL. What lies behind it, you can see in the video.
What did Tyler do now? In a sponsored stream on October 13, Tyler wanted to show Overwatch 2 for the first time. He said he hadn’t played Overwatch in ages and apparently needed to find his bearings first.
After nearly getting himself in trouble while reading the ad text, Tyler wanted to take a look at his account statistics and urged his viewers to ignore the bronze status – he had supposedly held the diamond rank. The problem with incorrect ranks is currently affecting many players.
When he opened the chat, however, Tyler first experienced a surprise: There was a message saying that he had been silenced in the chat due to multiple reports from other players. This was surprising since he hadn’t played a match yet.
In the clip, you can see how Tyler discovers his chat ban.
How can this be? Apparently, the ban is a remnant from the original Overwatch. He had streamed that after his ban in LoL in 2016 and received a chat ban of 10 years immediately.
Tyler explained at the time that the reason for the muting was not messages he had written in the chat, but his behavior in LoL (via YouTube). However, viewers point out that he had also behaved toxic in Overwatch.
A user on reddit explains that it was nothing unusual, just the “typical T1 behavior,” such as insulting his team (via reddit).
It now appears that the chat ban has been transferred to Overwatch 2. Of the 10 years, 1,812 days remain, which is nearly 5 years (as of October 13, 2022).
How did Tyler react to the ban? The streamer took it calmly and said he deserved it. He then actually played some Overwatch 2, including his usual outbursts. However, his teammates remained unbothered due to the muting.
What do you think about it? Is it fair to transfer bans from older games to newer ones, or should players be given a new chance with a new game? Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion.
