Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich (25) is the biggest streamer in German Twitch. He is usually known for gaming and reaction content or sometimes for special events. However, Twitter is currently discussing him for a different reason: users are accusing the 25-year-old of sexism due to a video.
What is this clip about? On April 28, Twitter user Rito shared a clip that does not put EliasN97 in a good light. In the video, the streamer talks about a supposed fashion trend among women who wear their underwear in a way that is visible above their waistband.
For the 25-year-old, this has nothing to do with fashion; he wants to warn his viewers in case their girlfriends go out like that or want to sleep over at their “best friends”. He accuses women who present themselves that way in public of lacking loyalty and being “promiscuous”.
A discussion quickly arose in the comments: while some agree with the streamer, others find his viewpoint outdated and are disturbed by his behavior.
The video Elias reacts to is only 2 weeks old, so the clip is still quite current. It is difficult to determine exactly when the recordings were made, as there are no clips or VODs on EliasN97’s Twitch channel. Presumably, it is a good decision, as videos taken out of context can quickly develop a life of their own online.
Criticism even comes from his own girlfriend
What bothers the viewers? Some commenters on Twitter consider the streamer’s statements to be sexist and outdated. Rito, who shared the clip, calls the opinion “straight out of the Neanderthal age”. Even his own girlfriend seems little impressed: she can be heard in the video discussing with EliasN97.
The behavior that EliasN97 displays in the conversation with his girlfriend also does not sit well with some users. The streamer repeatedly interrupts her, talks over her, or shouts “promiscuous” during her speech.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old comes across as somewhat self-righteous at times: he thinks he can say that, his advertising partners stand behind him, many might not like the statements, but he doesn’t care.
Ultimately, he does somewhat relativize: this is simply his personal opinion, for him such outfits would not be acceptable in a relationship, but others might find it less concerning. We have embedded the clip for you here:
The users in the comments are by no means in agreement: many agree with EliasN97 or at least think he has the right to express his opinion freely. The streamer himself has not yet commented on the recordings.
Unlike his Twitch colleague MontanaBlack, who is known for his somewhat brash style, EliasN97 actually has a pretty good, clean image. Perhaps this is why the expectations of him are higher, and the uproar is correspondingly greater when he misbehaves in the eyes of critics.
