Since 2022, Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich has been the number 1 in the German Twitch, but he has quite a few criticisms about his streaming home. In a real talk, he spoke about the future of the platform.
What is the current situation on Twitch? Many streamers are currently dissatisfied with Twitch. The most common points of criticism include:
- The distribution of revenue from paid subscriptions. Many content creators believe they deserve a higher share.
- The ban policy. Content creators often cannot understand the reasons for their ban or find the duration disproportionate.
- The options for monetization also leave much to be desired. Some content creators criticize that they receive too little money for too much advertising.
Dan Clancy, until then president of Twitch, became the CEO of the company in March 2023. Before that, he had already been accused of not having a good relationship with the streamers. He apparently wants to work on this now.
He not only appeared as a guest in various streams but also invited the German streamer EliasN97 for a discussion to talk about the criticism towards Twitch. The 25-year-old has now released a “real talk” about the future of the platform.

How does he evaluate the conversation with the CEO? EliasN97 apparently believes that Twitch has ignored the problems for too long. While he praises that the platform wants to work on itself and seek conversations with streamers, he also says, “This all comes too late now.”
What bothers EliasN97? The streamer explains two of his biggest points of criticism. Firstly, Twitch does not support content creators enough at events. Secondly, he criticizes the ban policy. For the 25-year-old, it’s not just about the fear of being banned himself and suddenly losing an important source of income.
According to Twitch’s guidelines, it is also not permitted to appear together with a banned streamer. However, for EliasN97, it is out of the question to not do joint streams with his buddy Sidney Eweka if he gets banned:
I have to continue doing something with them because we run three businesses together. I can’t just keep saying “it doesn’t work,” that’s totally crazy.
The German streaming landscape will change
How does he assess the future of Twitch? As the streamer Reved recently pointed out, the German streaming scene is currently undergoing a transformation. Although EliasN97 couldn’t reveal too much, he still provided some interesting information.
He confirmed that many streamers are currently considering a switch. However, they are unlikely to go to an already existing platform. So it does not seem like there would be a large wave of switches to the controversial Twitch competitor Kick.
At the same time, EliasN97 also dispels the persistent rumors about a streaming platform of the online TV provider Joyn: To his knowledge, there will be no such platform.
In the coming years, the 25-year-old believes the streamers will likely spread out more. YouTube also wants to make a significant push, according to EliasN97. It seems like several platforms want to chip away at Twitch’s throne. There will not be one platform that everyone will go to.
In the end, it always comes down to one thing: “A very big point is of course money,” says the streamer. However, he himself has so far not received any significant offers. It is questionable whether EliasN97 will stay on Twitch. The 25-year-old hints that he is currently “not with any existing [site].”
