With the upcoming film “Silent Night – Silent Revenge”, John Woo, one of the greatest action directors of all time, makes his comeback. Marco from Nerdkultur explains in a new video on his YouTube channel how the director redefined the genre.
At the age of 77, John Woo returns to Hollywood and presents us with “Silent Night – Silent Revenge” on December 14, 2023, a new action film – which completely relies on visuals without any dialogue.
But it doesn’t need any. Because the director’s films speak solely through their impressive imagery, as Marco explains in his latest video on the YouTube channel Nerdkultur.
We have directly embedded the video here:
Marco Risch has been uploading videos on news, reviews, analyses, and interviews about current films, series, and video games since 2015. The YouTube channel Nerdkultur is part of the Webedia network, of which MeinMMO is also a part. Especially “nerdy” topics like Star Wars, Marvel, and DC are the focus of his channel.
In the film analysis, he shows the sophisticated filmmaking techniques the director uses to make the action sequences feel as coherent as a staged music video.
In addition, Marco explains how John Woo shoots his vast, sprawling scenes while still maintaining clarity in his films.
An action film by the filmmaker is currently streamable on Disney+, as you can read here with our colleagues at Moviepilot.
Already in the teaser trailer for “Silent Night – Silent Revenge”, Marco discovers typical stylistic devices of John Woo, but also notes references to works that once quoted the action director.
And even if he may leave the cinema of “Silent Night – Silent Revenge” feeling disillusioned at the end, one thing is certain: John Woo remains one of the greatest action virtuosos in film history.
