In Pokémon GO started on July 17 the big summer event and fittingly the friendship challenge. We show you which bonuses you can look forward to.
When does the event run? It started at 8:00 AM local time. The event ends on July 22 at 10:00 PM local time. So you have less than a week to take advantage of the bonuses.
The event brings the 3rd part of the challenges for the GO Fest and also new Shinys, Pokémon, and event Pikachu.
Everything you need to know about the summer event
These are the bonuses: The event is all about summer! Here’s an overview:
- Summer Pokémon appear in the wild, in raids, and in eggs
- Shiny Knofensa comes to the game
- Lilminip appears for the first time in Pokémon GO
- A Pikachu that “has prepared well for the summer” appears in the wild
- Photo shoots bring you special encounters
What does Shiny Knofensa look like? You can recognize the Pokémon quite well. It is completely yellow. Its usually green leaves have changed color. We show you a picture of the entire Shiny family:
What is Lilminip? The Pokémon is of the plant type and evolves into Dressella. However, the evolution does not play a significant role in the meta of Pokémon GO. So it is primarily a new entry in the PokéDex.
What kind of Pikachu could appear? There is no picture yet. However, it could very well be the Pikachu with the summer hat (see title image) that was already in the game in 2018. It did not appear in summer 2019. Therefore, it is also one of the rarest Shinys in the game.

What kind of challenge is this? It is the third and final challenge on the way to the GO Fest. If you and enough other players from your team complete the challenge, you can unlock Pokémon for the GO Fest. This time there are:
- One million players from Team Instinct (yellow) complete the challenge: Togetic appears at the GO Fest
- One million players from Team Valor (red) complete the challenge: Lichtel appears at the GO Fest
- One million players from Team Mystic (blue) complete the challenge: Dratini appears at the GO Fest
What is included in the challenge? Here you can find all tasks and rewards for the friendship challenge in Pokémon GO. It will again have 3 stages, and then there will be another bonus stage with trickier tasks. In the meantime, you will encounter Alolan Raichu and Lilminip. There is also a lucky egg.
During the event, you can also benefit from a new feature. You can now invite friends to raids from a distance and complete them together.
