In Pokémon GO there has been a major change to the egg pools. Other Pokémon are now hatching, but the question is whether the change really led to an improvement.
This is what happened: On October 20, trainers reported that they suddenly received different Pokémon from the eggs. A little later, Niantic confirmed the suspicion: The 2-, 5-, and 10-km eggs have been revised.
The hope among many players was high. After all, the egg pool had been criticized repeatedly lately. Some Pokémon were far too rare, while others, unfortunately, were not very good, hatched from the eggs.
Now, with a few days of distance, a first summary can be drawn: The eggs have not really improved.
From one dud to the next
This is what the 2-km eggs look like: At first glance, there is good news here. No Toxiped or Felilou anymore, which felt like they were in every 2nd egg.
Otherwise, there are no major highlights here, which cannot be expected in the 2-km eggs. There are still some duds like Bamelin or Felino, which cannot even be Shiny.
This is what the 5-km eggs look like: Positively, only 17 different Pokémon now hatch from the eggs. Previously there were still 23 and you almost always got a different Pokémon. This could be an advantage, but there was a lot of junk that made the 5-km eggs rather useless.
Content-wise, not much has improved. Machollo or Kiesling are quite nice but are rather scarce in the wild outside of events. However, there are still a lot of duds here too, such as Stollunior, Evoli, or Barschwa.
This is what the 10-km eggs look like: The big highlight of the egg change can be found in the 10-km eggs. Barschwa, the hate object of many trainers in this egg pool, can now only be found in 5-km eggs.
Upon closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that other Barschwa candidates will annoy trainers in the future. Pygraulon, Emolga, Ohrdoch, or Golbit are strong contenders for that. Klikk and Sheinux have already been frequently found in 10-km eggs in the past and will surely not become less common in the future.
Time will tell: Currently, it is still not entirely clear which Pokémon will hatch from the eggs and how often. One thing can be said with certainty: the truly rare Pokémon, like Milza or Kapuno, are still incredibly rare. After almost two days of observation, hundreds of players on reddit have not received any of these specimens from the eggs. The probabilities are still limited.
These eggs have been added: For some days now we can also get 12-km eggs in Pokémon GO. These come from the Rocket bosses.
Here, the egg pool also shows a similar picture. While you get Pokémon like Unratütox or Larvitar in abundance, the truly sought-after Pokémon, like Kapuno or Ganovil, are only very rare.
So even here Niantic does not deviate from the rules: rare Pokémon remain incredibly rare, and useless monsters are hatched in abundance.
Are the eggs better now? In conclusion, one can say that while the egg pool does host some new Pokémon, the fundamental principle has not changed. There are good Pokémon, but they remain rare. Conversely, new duds have been added. So those who hoped that the removal of Barschwa from the 10-km eggs would result in significant changes will be disappointed.
