The genre of loot shooters has long been very popular among MMO players. Games like Destiny and The Division have provided gamers with hours of fun. However, currently, the genre seems to be in crisis. We discuss this in the MeinMMO Podcast.
Destiny 2 and The Division 2 are struggling. Anthem is dead. We thought that loot shooters would usher in a new era of MMOs. After all, Destiny established its MMO mechanics on consoles at the time.
In the meantime, there have been some games that managed to achieve success, but they were certainly not mega-hits. Video games like Outriders belong to this category. Sub-genres like battle royale had immense appeal – especially Fortnite was a huge success on Twitch – but that shine is also fading today.
