The best weapons in Destiny 2 are only for the best players – Unfair or right?

Destiny 2 tempts with loot that most players will probably never get. Is that okay and motivates to play, or does it kill the collecting instinct and is simply unfair? MyMMO looks at this heated topic and wants to know your opinion on it.

This is why the Guardians argue: Should all players of Destiny 2 have all items? Should every Guardian’s collection be complete, or is it okay that some powerful weapons only belong to a small circle of chosen ones? A constant topic of debate, which is again heating up in Season 13.

Both sides have valid points:

• Some players say they have paid for the game, the season, or the expansion and therefore want to be rewarded with all available items (the “Why am I even paying 10€?”-joker).
• Many see rare items as prestige objects that they have worked hard for. Accordingly, they want to be shown something that justifies the effort. We are talking about a loot carrot that dangles in front of them, for which they are willing to endure hardships. Otherwise, games like Destiny could not keep players engaged in the long run and motivate them to improve.
• Others argue: If only the best players get the best weapons, it creates a “the rich get richer” situation. How can one catch up if they are always running around with second best or are getting wiped out in PvP?

This also raises questions about time investments, fairness, casual versus hardcore Guardians, and so on.

We want to know from you what your stance on this topic is. To warm up, here’s an insight into what players can currently earn and how the powerful loot has changed over time.

This is how players sweat in Destiny 2 for the hot loot

This is the current reason for the discussion: Destiny 2 has made master weapons the highlight of the loot carrots dangling in front of the Guardians with Season 13. The guns known as adept weapons by veterans are special models of well-known weapons. They are popular for this reason:

• They look different, have exclusive access to master mods and as a full masterpiece, they receive a boost to all stats.
• Master weapons are only available in PvE through the Nightfall’s top tier difficulty. Most players are probably hardly capable of playing there at their level right now. Others fail due to missions that make life hell with negative modifiers, annoying champions, and the lack of a player search.
• In PvP, master weapons are only awarded as a reward for a flawless visit to the lighthouse. Only the best players (or the boldest cheaters) can achieve this.

In short: Master weapons are prestigious, somewhat better than regular weapons but are indeed very hard to obtain. Many Guardians have to accept that they may never save the universe with Igneous Hammer as a master version.

Aside from master weapons, the arsenal from the Deep Stone Crypt is likely to be one of the toys that can make a mighty bang, which some players will probably never get to try out. The shotgun and sniper rifle from the raid are considered the best representatives of their kind and make every loadout stronger. However, across the board, the weapons are very strong and especially visually a futuristic treat.

Otherwise, you can almost earn all relevant items either through targeted quests or by farming loot-luck. Recently even faster: Destiny 2 brings important loot changes, forgot in the patch notes

As mentioned, these strong weapons are not accessible to all Guardians. Not all Guardians raid, grind their way to the flawless chest or bite through the Trials. Whether it’s due to missing team members, level requirements, or skill blocking the way – there are many reasons, all of which are understandable.

Bungie whets your appetite for big guns and hard activities

This is how players get small versions of the big guns: The “normal” versions of the master weapons can also be snagged by players without much stress.

• The Trials also reward exclusive weapons at lower difficulty levels. Here, of course, without the master bonuses. The higher Guardians set the difficulty, the more likely a drop is. Currently, this gun might only be the classic Palindrome high up on wish lists.
• The Trials entice with a bounty that grants one of the rare rewards once per character and week just for participation. Even if you only “die” through a few matches, you will be guaranteed the base version of the cool weapons or a snazzy armor piece.
• In the raid, it looks a bit different. The current loot is truly only available through playing the Deep Stone Crypt and the exotic is even only after the last boss. But players can directly gather resources at the entrance to catch up with the highlights of past raids. Here, MyMMO shows you how this can be done completely solo in Season 13.

Sometimes Exotics rain, sometimes there’s loot drought

This is how Destiny swings with its loot policy: How generously Destiny handles loot and whether you have to work hard for “the best items” or get them for free has changed frequently.

In the past, the Guardians have lived through both extremes: At the launch of Destiny 2, exotics were thrown at players, weapons from the Trials were available even if you didn’t play the playlist, and everything felt like a homogenous mess – players were not satisfied with that in the long run.

Later, Forsaken introduced powerful weapons like the One Thousand Voices or the PvP-exclusive top weapons that shredded everything in every area of the game, the best shotgun back then (Mindbender) was only available with much luck and even more patience from a rotating strike. The rarest weapons were again the strongest. This didn’t sit well with everyone either.

Over time, the requirements were lowered, top weapons like the Recluse and the Mountaintop became easier to obtain season by season. This also led to issues since now almost all Guardians ran around with potent killers, leading to a monotonous clearing of each content.

Why are powerful weapons so important? Looking back at the weapons, exotic or legendary, whose quirky names you can still recite in your sleep years later, they are mostly over-the-top powerful guns. Black Spindle / Hammer, Gjallarhorn, Not Forgotten, Recluse, One Thousand Voices… you immediately have a picture in your mind.

But most of them were not only somewhat OP, often broken, they were also often really rare. Either because you had to fulfill heavy tasks on the way to the item or because you needed loot luck on your side.

Overall, this can be summarized: You worked hard for something, were immensely proud upon achieving it, and “were someone”. Whether with such prestige objects you are someone in your own eyes or in the eyes of other players cannot always be said.

In the early days of Destiny 1, many Guardians couldn’t even reach the maximum level, as the necessary items were only available in raids. “Forever 29” was common. If you saw such a mythical level 30 Guardian in the Tower, the red carpet was rolled out.
