The first update since the official release of Battlefield 2042 has been released today. The patch addresses several issues with weapon balance. MeinMMO tells you how this changes the meta.
Today, on November 25, 2021, the first of 2 updates for Battlefield 2042, announced by EA and DICE for the coming days, was released. The second patch is expected to be released in early December.
The update today addressed several significant issues. In particular, the reduced spread of assault rifles was highly anticipated.
The patch also modified the equally popular and feared PP-29. We will tell you what changes it underwent. We will also reveal how this affects the weapon meta. Instead of the PP-29, you should now use 3 other weapons.
PP-29 harder to use after patch
The PP-29 has so far been one of the most played weapons in Battlefield 2042. That could change with the patch.
Why was the PP-29 so good? Until today’s patch, the PP-29 was the best submachine gun and the most versatile weapon in the game.
The PP-29 still has a lot of ammunition with a fast reload animation. Its quick handling remains a great advantage. However, its greatest strength was how dangerous it was at range.
Because the PP-29 had little recoil, it was a good choice in almost any situation. It shot accurately at range and strongly in close combat. Therefore, it was very easy to play. However, this significant strength has now been lost due to the patch.
Why is the PP-29 weaker now? The PP-29 has significantly more recoil since the update. This makes the weapon much harder to use and less effective at range. Due to its slow fire rate, it cannot compensate for this weakness with short bursts of fire.
After the adjustments, the PP-29 is no longer a disguised assault rifle; instead, it is a submachine gun in the classic sense: strong in close combat, adequately good at medium distances, and poor beyond that.
Since the PP-29 was never the best submachine gun for close combat, there are now better alternatives for all situations. We specifically name 3.
3 weapons replace the PP-29
With the changes in the update, weapons that were previously outclassed by the PP-29 have become relevant again. In particular, 3 weapons are now strong alternatives:
M5A3
Why is this weapon now better than the PP-29? Because the spread of assault rifles has been significantly improved thanks to the new update, the M5A3 is finally worth recommending.
The weapon is completely average in terms of values, but that is its advantage: The M5A3 is never the best weapon, but a good choice in most situations. Since situations in Battlefield 2042 can change quickly, you are always well-equipped with the M5A3.
This very property has previously distinguished the PP-29. However, after the patch, this is more true for the M5A3. The assault rifle is therefore a good direct replacement for the PP-29. Attachments still help to respond to various situations with the weapon.
MP9
Why is this weapon now better than the PP-29? After the patch, we believe the MP9 is the new best submachine gun in the game – but you unlock it significantly later.
The biggest disadvantage of the MP9 compared to the PP-29 was its high recoil. Thus, the weapon was harder to use for similar yields.
This has changed due to the patch: The recoil of the MP9 is now comparable to that of the PP-29. With its higher fire rate, the MP9 can utilize short bursts of fire better at range. Consequently, it is more effective at range than the PP-29.
The MP9 was already a significantly better weapon in close combat before the patch. These strengths remain intact. With attachments, the MP9 can improve significantly. It even has a magazine with 50 rounds available – giving it similar ammunition capacity to the PP-29.
Thus, the PP-29 has lost its strengths against the MP9 with the patch, without the MP9 having to relinquish its own strengths. Therefore, the MP9 is often stronger than the PP-29.
PBX-45
Why is this weapon now better than the PP-29? If you prefer submachine guns over assault rifles, the M5A3 may not be your favorite alternative. Here comes the PBX-45 into play. After the nerf of the PP-29, the PBX-45 is the new best all-round submachine gun.
It may not excel at anything in particular, but it is not truly bad in any regard either. Therefore, the PBX-45 is never a bad choice. Unlike the MP9, it is also available from the start.
The weapon is effective at almost all distances and can be well controlled despite relatively high recoil. Many attachments make the weapon even more flexible.
