Anyone who wants to own the most coveted raid exotic in Destiny 2 must prepare for a hard grind. This frustrates many players. They want to know from Bungie just how rare the best weapon really is. One player now claims to have calculated the drop rate of the Vex Mythoclast.
Update September 27, 2021: This article has been expanded to include further numbers and investigations of players regarding the drop rate.
This is the super weapon: It is the cult weapon Vex Mythoclast. The exotic fusion rifle with fully automatic firing mode is in Season 15 the most coveted and best weapon in Destiny 2.
A rework gave the Vex Mythoclast a significant boost. It was much needed, as the exotic previously hardly interested Guardians. Due to seasonal changes, such as the mod Particle Deconstruction, the weapon is a real boss killer and one of the best choices in the game. For about 4 weeks now, every Guardian has been dreaming of the exotic.
That’s why the exotic is so rare
The Vex Mythoclast is a raid exotic. It can only be obtained after successfully completing the raid Glass Chamber. But that’s not all, there are more obstacles:
- The Vex is not a guaranteed drop upon completing the raid.
- Per week, players only have 3 chances at the Vex Mythoclast, provided they complete the raid with all three classes.
- More than three raid completions per week do not give players any further chances at the coveted raid exotic.
- Players have been able to run the raid since May 2021, which is 5 months, and despite many trying everything, they go home empty-handed.
- There should be some sort of bad luck protection, but players doubt it.
50 raid completions and still no exotic frustrates
The community of Destiny 2 has been complaining about low drop rates for exotic raid weapons for years – some guardians have run over 100 raids without snagging the strong rewards. Now, in the Glass Chamber, some players have over 50 raid runs, and yet the Vex Mythoclast simply won’t drop for them.
5 months of just bad luck makes many players think about giving up.
On reddit, user1deejay writes: “We run the raid every week for each character and two of our clan members still haven’t gotten the weapon. It really feels bad when we do what the game tells us to do, and after over 50 attempts we get nothing.”
On MeinMMO, we often see statements like this in the comments:
How cute. Only 30 completions? I am at 52 lootable completions and I am still the only one in my team who has not gotten it while it has already dropped for three others for a second time (I was there every time).

Player claims to have calculated the drop rate of the Vex Mythoclast
The player Pinnkeyy quickly started his own survey on reddit to find out how high the drop rate of the Vex Mythoclast is. He wanted to know from players if and in which run they received the Vex Mythoclast.
In the meantime, the guardians have extensively expanded the survey: They have now evaluated data from one million completions in the Glass Chamber. The whole thing resembles a small thesis (via reddit)
This is how much luck you need: At the end of his experiment, the players assert the thesis that the Vex Mythoclast has a probable drop rate of only 4.15 – 5%. Furthermore, he assumes that the raid “The Glass Chamber” has no bad luck protection.
What does Bungie say about bad luck protection? Bungie introduced a type of randomness protection (RNG Protection) into the game. This increases your chances of receiving the much-desired weapon with each successful completion in which you go empty-handed. Up to a 100% guaranteed drop. However, the system is not without errors, as Bungie.net admitted on March 18, 2021.
Additionally, community manager dmg04 clarifies again on Twitter: You only have 3 chances a week for the Vex Mythoclast to drop, whether the raid is played normal, master, or a mix of both.
