As autumn and darkness fall upon the Destiny 2 universe, Bungie celebrates its Halloween event. This year, not much has fundamentally changed. But there is something that makes the Festival of the Lost interesting: Guardians are constantly insulted.
What is different this year for Halloween? Guardians love surprises. However, Bungie hasn’t changed much in the activities of the Halloween event for 2023.
Players once again explore the so-called Haunted Sectors, “remodeled” for Halloween, and collect candies in various activities to discover the now third lore book, “Stories of the Forgotten”.

What has changed for Halloween in 2023: While the sectors have remained the same, one thing has still changed in the Halloween event. And it’s not the new memento that is currently spreading FOMO in Destiny 2 – the fear of missing out.
It is mainly the voice lines that differ, as 2023 saw the mischievous ghost of Savathûn, Immaru, getting involved.

Most ghosts in Destiny 2 are serious and hardworking, but also boring. However, Immaru certainly speaks his mind and proves that he is not a typical ghost.
No wonder some players felt the urge to squash him in one situation or another during the story campaign of Season 22.
But his days don’t seem to be numbered yet.
For Halloween, Immaru has broken out of his small dark room, into which Eris Morn had banished him after the end of the Season 22 story, and now tells the Guardians on their outings in the Haunted Sectors what he thinks of them: namely nothing.
Immaru received several voice lines for the Halloween event 2023 that he utters depending on the Guardian class and sector. Some are heard very often. Others are rare, but no less funny. From creepy puns, nasty insults to dark sarcasm, everything is included.
- If you take too long at the summoning circle, Immaru asks: “Are you finally standing in the circle! Even vermin follow commands better than you. My goodness!”
- When you’re in the summoning circle, he eggs you on: “Is it that hard to shoot and collect while standing in a circle? Hmm … Amateurs!”
- Things get precarious? Immaru has a clear opinion on that too: “Don’t expect me to save your butt if you mess it up.”
- Moreover, “Daddy Immaru” as he likes to call himself, wants evidence that it was not a waste of time for him to interfere this Halloween.
- When asked if the Hive created these headless monsters, he says: “Would be nice! Then I would have already sent a whole army of them after you. But don’t worry, the Hive knows plenty of other ways to kill you!”
Even Ikora, the noble guardian of knowledge and representative of the Warlocks at the Vanguard, fully feels the impudent nature of the Hive’s ghost in a voice line.
- When she wants to send him back to the Tower so he can learn about the meaning of the festival that honors those who have passed on, Immaru interrupts her announcement and throws in: “Oh, then get out of here! So I can celebrate that you’re gone.”
All alone in the sector on the Moon, he becomes a little sentimental and says: “This place isn’t so bad. Cursed serfs, strictly following the motto ‘All you can kill’. […] Aah, you just know how to treat a ghost.”
Entertaining, but annoying in the long run
What does the community say about the cheeky ghost? Unfortunately, Immaru’s jokes wear off at some point and can become really annoying.
While at first one chuckled over his entries, after many runs, one reaches a point where they are annoyed by his voice lines. They seem to come a bit too often.
Some players even wonder if Bungie is overdoing it with Immaru. After all, it’s hard to focus on the fights and quests of the Halloween event when Immaru shows up with a “If something rips your head off, I’ll laugh my head off”.
- The Guardian DominusTitus still sees it positively: “Actually, I think he’s great. There’s no need to get Frankenstein’s monster to replace him.”
- And Personal_Ad_7897 thinks: “Yes, he insults your loadout and your mods. But he is annoyingly entertaining. It doesn’t feel forced or like bad writing, but is funny and witty, matching his characterization.”
Others, however, have already reached their personal Immaru limit and have even disabled all voice lines in the game because of it.
- Grissy for example cannot understand the Immaru enthusiasm and writes on Reddit: “I never understood why other players like him so much. I understand that he is supposed to be portrayed as an annoying, self-satisfied type, but he does that too well. So instead of having a character in the game whose main feature is ‘annoying’, I realize that I’m simply annoyed. It’s a subtle distinction, but an important one. […] I’ve heard the same insult four times in a row, all within 20 seconds. That’s definitely too much Immaru. […]”
- Also cralfie thinks: “‘Neo-nerds’ quickly becomes monotonous and annoying, although I like that he says the things we all shout at our teammates when they can’t hear us and mess up an activity.”
- Technophilie on the other hand has already reached their personal Immaru limit: “During Season 22 I loved it. Now I want to squash him and kill him in all realities forever because he can’t keep his mouth shut […]”
But however one may see it. xDiddle sees it relaxed: “He is a bit annoying, yes. But that’s exactly what his character portrayal aims for. He’s somewhat of a ‘bully’ character. Some may not like that, but that means it worked.”
Immaru, the endlessly arrogant ghost of Savathûn, seems to be the best thing about the Halloween event 2023 in Destiny 2 for some, alongside the memento of black leather.
He makes Guardians chuckle, which is good, even if he sometimes goes a bit overboard and his lines can be somewhat annoying in the long run. However, one should still let oneself be insulted by his lines on the way through the event and enjoy his malicious antics.
