In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the season in eSports is in full swing. There, the best players face off – and somehow almost everyone is using a specific weapon.
On X (formerly Twitter) “FaZeCoDMuse” writes on January 6 that about 68% of the kills in the Call of Duty League, the professional eSports league in CoD, were made with the MCW. This shows that the assault rifle is particularly popular among professional shooter players.
Even in multiplayer, the MCW is still part of the meta (according to Warzone Loadout CODMunity). However, other strong weapons dominate there as well, such as the Bas-B and the Holger 556. And concerning Warzone, a streamer says: The MTZ-762 will really shake up the meta.
Limited weapon selection leads to the MCW
What is the reason for this? The Call of Duty League belongs to Activision Blizzard and has specific rules that apply to the 12 teams. The competitive mode rules state that certain items and weapons are banned, including the assault rifle Holger 556 and the battle rifles Bas-B and MTZ-762 (source: callofdutyleague.com).
This could explain why many professional players resort to the MCW. It was also among the best assault rifles in CoD: MW3 as of December 2023.
How do they come up with that number? According to its X biography, “FaZeCoDMuse” is a joint account of two users who upload content from the eSports team Atlanta FaZe. On January 6, they write on X that in CoD: MW3 “so far 67.96% OF ALL Kills were achieved with the MCW in hand.” In the comments, they state that they collected this data themselves.
We took a look ourselves and watched the recent qualification matches of the Call of Duty League on the official YouTube channel of the CoD League. In the various matches, on different maps and on different days, one weapon dominated above all – the MCW. However, we could not verify the kill rate from FaZeCoDMuse
.
Several players from different teams chose the MCW as their primary weapon, usually in combination with the submachine gun Rival-9 or the Renetti pistol. One of them is Chris “Simp” Lehr from Atlanta FaZe.
On December 1, 2023, “Simp” presented on YouTube an “Updated Pro-Player” build for the MCW, which we have replicated for viewing:
