Tastes are known to be different. That’s why thousands of players are arguing on Reddit about which multiplayer map is the best in history. Of course, MeinMMO editor Maik is not satisfied with the choice at all – an old map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In the last few days, a huge thread has emerged in the gaming subreddit, the third-largest subreddit overall. A user named _Mr_Cheeks came up with the idea to start a thread titled: “The arguably best multiplayer map of all time…” Below was just an image:
My lower right eyelid started twitching immediately. What is supposed to be the best map? Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare? And did almost 30,000 users upvote the thread? This lame map with one of the worst sniper spots ever?
I had to take a closer look at the thread, and indeed it was one of the most interesting topics I’ve ever read on Reddit. The comment with the most upvotes calmed my eyelid: “That’s not even the best map in the game”.
Many players are sharing their experiences and favorite maps, arguing with each other in a friendly manner, and in between there’s always that typical Reddit humor.
Someone threw “Carentan” into the room and suddenly the fans of the US series “The Office” woke up – “You are sniping on Carentan!?!?” (via youtube.com).
Then the Halo faction rises up and about 200 comments revolve around the best maps of the great CoD competitor from back in the day. User DestGades writes: “That’s not Blood Gulch.” 3,700 upvotes for this comment show that at least the Xbox shooter tried.
It doesn’t take long before the first “M M M M M M M MONSTER KILL killl kill kill……” can be read, as the old “Unreal Tournament” players of “Crash” also have a twitch in their eye. And also “Dust II” cannot be missing – even CS:GO players have discovered the thread.

By the way, the open beta of XDefiant, Ubisoft’s CoD competitor, runs until June 23, 2023. Here’s a trailer:
Personally, for me, it’s a map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – but the old game from 2009. The map “Estate” captivated me, it was also part of the traumatic CoD mission “Loose Ends”.
“Estate” has a large estate for exciting close combat, wide areas with elevation changes and many covers, allowing for many tactics and something for every playstyle. Back then I was terrible at Call of Duty, yet I almost always enjoyed the matches on “Estate”.
I also had a strong and nice team.
Unfortunately, over the last few years hardly any new multiplayer maps have come that really remain memorable. Maybe “Verdansk” from Warzone, if we include battle royale. But I also feel like that could be lockdown nostalgia.
