Terraria is statistically the best game on Steam. Although it only costs €10 one-time, it has been continuously developed for 11 years: After the “last update” in 2020, another patch that excites fans has finally come: Labor of Love went online yesterday, on September 28th.
Why is Terraria considered the best game on Steam? Terraria has achieved something that no game before has: It received 1 million reviews and maintained the best possible rating: “Overwhelmingly Positive.” Currently, it stands at 97% positive reviews (via twitter).
No game on Steam has achieved this before Terraria: It is an incredibly good game that only costs €10 once and has been excellently developed over the years.
What kind of game is it? It is an extremely complex 2D open-world game where you enjoy maximum freedom. Terraria offers a huge sandbox where you can explore, build, survive, or mine for ores: It can be played in singleplayer and multiplayer.
Some call it a “2D Minecraft,” but that’s not entirely accurate.
2 years after the end of the game, a big patch arrives
How is the game getting better now? The developers had actually officially concluded the development of Terraria with the patch “Journey’s End” in 2020.
However, now with “Labour of Love,” an update is coming that sounds like they just want to make fans happy:
- A new “Zenith” world is being introduced: The developers call it the “Magnus Opus of the Terraria World Seeds.” The world is supposed to have unique features from all other Terraria worlds and also new, yet unknown features.
- It is also said that the world is harder than all previous ones.
- Additionally, many more “Quality of Life” improvements are being made: Players can create 3 different loadouts, and most items stack up to 9,999.
- The combat system is also being revised.
- There are also 300 new items, 25 new block and wall types, and many other changes.

What do people say about Terraria? In the comments on PC Gamer, a user says:
- “The $10 I spent on Terraria when it came out was the best gaming investment I’ve ever made and probably ever will make.”
- On Steam, a tester says: “This game is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s so much fun and has so much content, and it’s crazy that it only has 280 MB. How is that even possible? I love it.”
Terraria seems to be an example of the much-maligned model “Games as a Service” that brings people a lot of joy.
