4th place: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
Genre: Shooter | Developer: GSC Game World | Platform: PC, Xbox Series X and S | Release Date: April 28, 2022
- 24.45 % of users
This is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was one of the games that seemed to be developed under an unlucky star. The shooter was actually announced back in August 2010. However, it was postponed multiple times and eventually even completely canceled. Only in 2018 could players hope again, and in 2020, the announcement of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for Xbox Series X|S and PC finally came.
The game once again places you in the radioactively contaminated setting of Chernobyl. After the second explosion of the power plant in the previous games, the Zone has changed again. Monsters and mutants are just as common as anomalies that override the laws of nature.
You play as one of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. named Skif, with whom you will navigate a closed and non-linear story. Throughout the narrative, your choices will influence the ending. The goal is to reach the center of the Zone. There, in the old reactors, horrific experiments are conducted on mutants, and it’s up to Skif and you to figure out what’s going on there.
The surprising news about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 helped the game land in 4th place in our survey.
3rd place: Starfield

This is Starfield: With Starfield Bethesda Softworks is releasing a completely new IP for the first time in 25 years. Although the game was announced at E3 2018, not much is known about it yet. Typically for Bethesda, it will be an RPG that offers players “unprecedented freedom.” Players will be able to choose a background, similar to Mass Effect.
As a setting, the developer has chosen space this time. According to an interview with the devs, it will be a kind of “NASA-Punk,” a sci-fi setting in the retro style of the 70s and 80s. The team aims to create an entirely unique universe with 300 years of history that will be integrated into the game’s lore.
Alien races have also been confirmed, which you will encounter on your journey through space. Depending on your preference, there will be a choice between first-person and third-person perspectives. Bethesda described the game as “Skyrim in space” and “Han Solo simulator.”
The anticipation for a new RPG from Bethesda brought Starfield to 3rd place in our survey.

While Battlefield 2042 does not have a single-player campaign, there are still many lore details about the game’s setting.
