In Overwatch 2 there is currently the probably best game mode – but only for a short time. It’s worth it, even if you don’t like shooters.
Hand on heart: The special event game modes of Overwatch 2 are always a mixed bag. Some are really good, others are quite a flop and can become exhausting or boring after a while. But the ‘Mischief & Mayhem’ mode is a lot of fun – and is now available again.
Even if you are currently playing little Overwatch 2, you should give Blizzard’s shooter a try for this mode.
What kind of mode is this? The ‘Mischief & Magic’ mode, which is also referred to as ‘Prop Hunt’, has little to do with traditional Overwatch. Because there are neither conventional objectives, nor do the characters have their usual abilities.
One team takes on the role of Kiriko. The team has a few seconds head start and must hide on the map. With a skill, you can transform into different objects. These can be trees, chairs, or vases – with each activation of the skill, you turn into a different, random object. Now the goal is to hide on the map and remain undetected for as long as possible.
The other team consists only of Genjis and has the task of finding all enemy players within the time limit and hitting them at least once to eliminate them immediately. You need to pay attention to details like noises or inappropriate objects.
The game is played with alternating roles – the first team to win three rounds wins the match.
What absurd situations arise, such as two Kiriko players disguising themselves as a ride vehicle, you can see in this clip:
What has changed? Although the ‘Mischief & Magic’ mode is not completely new, Blizzard has made some changes to make it even more interesting than last year. The three main innovations are:
- There is a new map. In addition to the ‘Blizzard World’ map, you can now also hide in an Asian night market and try to evade the Genjis or find the disguised Kirikos.
- Genji loses 25 health points with each melee attack and only regenerates health when he hits a Kiriko.
- To compensate for this, Genji players have a bit more time for searching.
Especially the change to Genji’s health points makes the mode significantly more tactical and interesting. It is no longer possible to just spam “attack” all the time and land numerous lucky hits. Instead, you must carefully observe the environment and identify faulty objects. Anyone who uses the melee attack too often will die after just a few seconds and essentially condemn their team to loss.
However, Genji’s ‘Dash’ can still be used without penalty – but it has a cooldown. It is excellent for covering a large area at once or reaching higher places.
Until when can you play this? The mode is part of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year and is available until February 20, before the event and thus also the game mode temporarily disappears again.
If you can’t get into normal Overwatch 2 or just want a little change, you should check out the mode – it’s worth it.
How do you like the event in Overwatch?
Recently the developers had to change Reaper – because he could say some really nasty things.
