There are now a total of 7 expansions for World of Warcraft. But which addon was the best and which was the worst?
With World of Warcraft, Blizzard has achieved something that only a few other games have managed. The MMORPG has now lasted for well over a decade and is still regularly updated with new patches or even entire expansions. It’s time to take a look back at the various expansions and rank them in a list.
The ranking is based on my personal feelings and memories of the respective times. Feel free to contribute your perspective in the comments.
Which expansion was the best and which addon was the worst?
Rank 5: Wrath of the Lich King
For many players, Wrath of the Lich King is perhaps the most beautiful addon, which they associate with their greatest memories. It wasn’t the case for me, though. Even though I recall many beautiful moments, especially the Ulduar raid remains a pleasant memory.
However, I did not like Arthas’ ending at all. Back then, I felt his end was undignified, even though that has changed in the years since.
I also missed different incentives in the endgame in Wrath of the Lich King, especially regarding the solo experience. I still remember that I played a lot of PvP in Wrath – due to a lack of alternatives.
Completing the same 8 daily quests at the Argent Tournament every day, only to repeat the whole thing for 4 more factions that offered exactly the same quests, eventually became too silly for me.
Wrath of the Lich King was a time for me in WoW when I logged in because it was “expected of me” through raid and guild. But at least the raids were well-designed, the fights were fun, and the differentiation of different difficulty levels was exciting and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the expansion couldn’t really captivate me, and the fact that I still don’t have the ridiculous weapon grip on the Pit of Saron makes it no better.
The highlight from Wrath of the Lich King: The Grizzly Hills. Only a few areas have ever reached this level of beauty again. The soothing soundtrack and the fantastic landscape with its many flower meadows and forests still make me want to linger there. Only a few zones are as atmospherically perfect as this.
