On March 27, 2025, the new A2b set of Pokémon TCG Pocket will be released. With the expansion “Shiny Festival,” there are fresh cards again, and the 4 strongest of them are already determined.
What is special about the new set? The upcoming expansion brings Shiny Pokémon into the trading card game, which many also know as Shinies. These are special color variants of Pokémon that appear much more rarely in the video games. There is one additional color variant for each Pokémon.
The stars of “Shiny Festival” are Charizard-ex and Lucario-ex, each in their shiny colors. So far, only a few of the new cards are known. However, if you look at which Pokémon have already been revealed in the trailer, you can see that especially 4 new cards will dominate the upcoming meta.

Which cards are particularly strong? In the upcoming set, 4 cards stand out especially that could be much better replacements for previous cards:
- Charizard-ex is obviously a particularly strong card. The Pokémon can supply itself with energy and then perform a devastating attack with 150 damage. It could be a good replacement for the previous combination of Moltres-ex and the old Charizard-ex, which had the roles individually.
- Red is a new Trainer card that can deal 20 more damage to an opponent’s active ex-Pokémon. This makes the supporter even better than Giovanni, who is currently used in many decks since he can only add 10 more damage.
- Wugtrio-ex has not yet been seen, but the card effect is already known (via Bulbapedia). It deals 50 damage three times to random opposing Pokémon. This makes it better than Dragonite, which deals 50 more damage but requires two energy types and an evolution more.
- The new Pikachu-ex is much more powerful than its old version. Instead of dealing a maximum of 90 damage, it can now do 150 damage. The only downside is that it has to discard energy.
The Trainer card is particularly noteworthy as it makes previous strategies even more effective. With it, for example, Mimikyu can be pushed even further and become an effective Arceus-ex killer.
When will the set be released? The new expansion will come out on March 27, 2025, in Pokémon TCG Pocket. From this date, you can choose the boosters with the new cards and hope to get the 4 strongest cards.
