The Diablo series plays with the sense of power. In Diablo 4, particularly overpowered builds are not supposed to become the norm. This is evident from a recent interview, where a specific build was deemed “too strong”.
Which build is it about? Necromancers were the strongest class in the last beta of Diablo 4 by far. Even with basic skills, they could easily defeat significantly stronger opponents.
With a special build, however, only a single button was needed to kill everything on the screen. Some players even demonstratively removed all other abilities from their action bar. Only a few items were necessary for this.
In an interview with PC Gamer, lead class designer Adam Z. Jackson explains that such a thing is not desired (via GamesRadar). The necromancer build is over the top even for Diablo standards.
This is what the class head says: Specifically, Jackson states that everything is on a spectrum, but this particular build was far from that spectrum. A sense of power is desired, but not such an extreme:
It is fun to be so powerful, perhaps even to feel a little overpowered. But there are limits.

In the beta, there was already some criticism, including regarding balancing. Blizzard has already addressed the key points in a developer stream and promised to fix them.

“I refuse to use build guides”
In the community, a discussion about builds and guides has emerged, presumably independently. On reddit, hundreds of fans are discussing whether it is better to read guides or to build oneself.
Many agree on this: discovering what is strong oneself is more fun and is part of the game. Others say they read guides to learn more about their class, but never follow them blindly.
