Release and Platform: January 26, 2018 (PS4, Xbox One), Fall 2018 (PC)
Model: Buy2Play
Monster Hunter World is an action RPG you can already play on your console by the end of January. The PC release will follow in the fall.
In Monster Hunter World, you set out alone or in a group of up to four players tracking down powerful beasts you want to slay. This improves your hunting skills, upgrades your equipment with parts from the monsters, and thus makes you the ultimate monster hunter. But beware: Some monsters are intelligent and have individual attack patterns.
Loot in Monster Hunter World? The better the loot, the stronger your equipment can become, allowing you to survive against even larger monsters. According to Game Director Yuya Tokuda, the concept of collecting loot from slain enemies to improve equipment is similar in MHW to Destiny. Therefore, he believes that Destiny players may find it easier to adapt to and get excited about Monster Hunter World.
With a new online drop-in mode, players can join an ongoing quest at any time. If you start a quest in single-player mode, you can send out a help signal. Other players can then join the quest without load times.
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360, PC, since 2015 also on PS4 and Xbox One as “The Handsome Collection”
Model: Buy2Play
Borderlands 2 is the classic in the “shoot’n loot” genre and is considered the reference in the genre. The shooter is a recommendable alternative to Destiny – as long as you haven’t played it yet. Since Borderlands 2 has been around for a few years, many of you may already know it. Otherwise: Give it a try!
What makes Borderlands 2 special? Borderlands 2 has a fantastic story with even better characters, plenty of loot, quirky dark humor, and great gameplay in comic graphics. With RPG elements and a focus on loot, it has some parallels to Destiny 2. However, it does not have the strong “online component”. You can play co-op with your friends.
Many fans are eagerly awaiting a “Borderlands 3”, for which rumors have thickened over the last months. For a long time, it was thought that Borderlands 3 could come as early as the beginning of 2019 – but now it seems more likely that Borderlands 3 will be released between April 2019 and March 2020.
Shadowgun Legends is essentially Destiny for mobile devices. In a futuristic world, humanity is attacked by hostile aliens. The last hope of humanity are the legendary Shadowguns. Only they can still turn the tide in the war against the aliens.
The parallels to the “big brother” can hardly be ignored in this clone. Because apart from the setting and the strikingly similar appearance, numerous other Destiny elements can be found in Shadowgun Legends. From a campaign with co-op missions to raids and loot, to PvP fights and social spaces, players are offered much that Destiny veterans are likely already familiar with.
The graphics are surprisingly good for a mobile game. If you have a correspondingly powerful device and can play at the highest graphics settings, you experience a particularly beautiful game by mobile standards.
How does Shadowgun Legends play? During the campaign, you embark on over 200 missions on four different planets, which need to be cleared of alien intruders.
With up to three friends, you can form a combat squad and tackle co-op missions and raids. The game also offers a PvP mode with numerous game modes and arenas.
While doing this, you collect diverse loot, grow stronger, and develop your character further. You can freely determine your skills and thus your play style. There are no classes or restrictions in this regard in Shadowgun Legends.
In the social hub, you can interact with other players and merchants, accept missions, celebrate, showcase your character, or form guilds.
The real money shop keeps a low profile and mainly serves as a basis for cosmetic items. A downside is the initially strongly limited inventory.
You start with only 15 slots, which can be expanded to up to 96 slots. However, you have to purchase something in the shop to do this. How much money you spend is irrelevant. Each transaction comes with a golden ring that significantly expands the inventory.
If you’re looking for a Destiny alternative for mobile devices, you should definitely check out the free Shadowgun Legends.
