“Thermal Erosion” is a heavy machine gun. The machine gun deals Solar damage and belongs to the extremely fast-firing 900 RPM class of weapons.
Here’s why the weapon is so good: With the right perks and a ammo finder mod, you can effectively play the power weapon like a primary weapon. You mow through hordes of enemies and feel like the roaring Rambo. The large magazine and considerable reserves make this possible.
What are the best perks?
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling (+5 Stability, Range, and Handling)
- Magazine: Extended Mag (+20 magazine size) or Ricochet Rounds (+5 Stability and Range and ricochet rounds off surfaces)
- Slot 1: Outlaw (increases reload speed and handling when aiming down sights)
- Slot 2: Reservoir Burst (weapon kills generate ability energy) or Demolitionist (kills grant grenade energy and throwing grenades reloads this weapon)

Is there a current alternative? Machine guns have become rare in Beyond Light. If you don’t like raiding, it looks bleak. Especially annoying since beloved top weapons like the MG 21% Delirium are no longer relevant.
4. Deafening Whisper
The grenade launcher “Deafening Whisper” is a special weapon that deals Void damage. It belongs to the extremely rare archetype “Waveform”. You do not fire a normal grenade, but the projectile sets the area on fire upon impact.
Here’s why the weapon is so good: The grenade launcher is one of the best special weapons in Destiny 2. However, it is less about boss damage and more about controlling adds or eliminating tougher mid-tier enemies.
With the wide damage field, you trigger your perks quickly and do not have to pay attention to the impact point, allowing you to focus on the next targets.
What are the best perks?
- Barrel: Linear Compensator (+5 Velocity, Blast Radius, and Stability)
- Magazine: High Velocity Rounds (+10 Reload Speed and Projectile Velocity)
- Slot 1: Ambitious Assassin (after quick kills, you have more shots in the chamber) or Gold-Tipped (when picking up heavy ammo, you’ll also get ammo for this weapon)
- Slot 2: Auto-Loading Holster (stowed weapon is automatically reloaded after a short time) or Frenzy (increases damage – stackable up to 3 times) or Reservoir Burst (weapon kills generate ability energy)
Where can you get Deafening Whisper? To obtain the grenade launcher, you must engage in the seasonal activity of Season 12’s Wrathborn Hunts. Through your bait, you choose the weapon as a hunt reward and even have an influence on status values and perks of the loot through your installed mods.

Is there a current alternative? No! The only other grenade launcher with waveform projectiles comes from the Season of the Worthy. This means, you won’t effectively use a comparable weapon in current activities starting in Season 13.
