Guild Wars 2 is not only one of the highest-rated MMORPGs on Steam, but it can also attract more and more players to the servers through Valve’s platform. Last weekend, a new player record was reached.
What kind of record is this? Last weekend, there were temporarily 9,512 users logged in to Guild Wars 2 on Steam at the same time (Source: steamdb.info). The previous player record for the MMORPG on Valve’s platform was 8,343 concurrently active users. That was in July 2025. The previous all-time high was from September 2022 (8,324 concurrent active players).
This allows Guild Wars 2 to continue its positive trend from recent months and draw in more Steam users to Tyria. Overall, it is said that more than 20 million players have tried the MMORPG over the years – most likely using the in-house launcher from Arenanet.

High quality at a low price
What is the reason for the current record? Firstly, Guild Wars 2 is simply a great MMORPG, as the ratings on Steam show. Only Star Wars: The Old Republic currently boasts a higher average rating there – thus, GW2 ranks 2nd in the top 10 highest-rated MMORPGs on Steam.
Secondly, Guild Wars 2 is certainly benefiting from the regular coverage of the upcoming expansion Visions of Eternity. The content package will include 9 new elite specializations coming to Tyria.
And thirdly, Guild Wars 2 is currently celebrating its 23rd anniversary and is therefore offering the paid expansions at significantly lower prices. For example, those who indulge in the entire Living World saga from Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and End of Dragons currently only pay 49.97 Euros instead of 99.97 Euros on Steam. The main game can, of course, be downloaded for free.
Noteworthy: Although player numbers are rising on Steam, the second quarter of 2025 was not very positive for Guild Wars 2 in terms of revenue. Compared to the second quarter of 2024, the game’s revenue fell by 32.7 percent.
