In January 2025, the developers of Elder Scrolls Online announced official addon support for the console version of the MMORPG. Now you can finally use the expansions.
What do I need to know about official addon support? On Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, you can now use addons for Elder Scrolls Online. The support for expansions was announced back in January 2025, but the foundation was only laid with Update 46 in June. This week, the addons were activated on the consoles.
Modifications can be selected and activated as follows:
- After logging into the game, open the Options
- There, select Show Addons under Expansions
- Select an expansion from the menu
- You can filter by name, number of users, and status
- A sorting option by category is also available, where you choose “All Categories” and specify which expansions you want to see
- You can search for specific expansions using the search function
- Once you have found an expansion, press Select and then Install
- Through this menu, you can also report and view version notes
- Once an expansion is installed, its status will be updated in the menu
- Once an expansion is installed, you can also uninstall it, reinstall it, or ignore updates
From the main menu for expansions, you can view a complete list of your active expansions through Manage Addons. There you can deactivate or activate individual installed expansions. The main menu for expansions also shows how much storage space each addon currently occupies.
Focus first on UI addons
What restrictions are there? The developers mention the following limitations for the use of addons in the console version of ESO:
- Only for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5
- Currently, only user interface expansions are supported
- A maximum of 100 MB of expansions can be installed at the same time
- Currently, expansions for languages are not supported
Where do the addons come from? These are expansions for ESO created and provided by private members of the community. Therefore, the developers of the MMORPG cannot guarantee that all modifications will work flawlessly.
On elderscrollsonline.com, it also states: “If you have issues with an addon, please contact the person who created it. If an addon is malfunctioning or causing other difficulties, please deactivate or delete it.”
Why is this such a big deal? Community addons can enrich the gaming experience in positive ways, providing additional convenience and optimized accessibility, addressing issues in a game, or providing additional information. Addon support for the PC version of ESO has been available for a long time.
The importance of addon support for games is impressively demonstrated by the Elder Scrolls series over many years. Thanks to fan content, Skyrim from 2011 has been a successful mainstay for over a decade and has been re-released multiple times.
