A producer of Dragon Ball Daima recently gave an interview in which he revealed more about the background of the anime. There was a particular feature that sets Daima apart from most other animes.
What kind of difference is that? When the Dragon Ball team was producing the film Super Hero, they started talking about creating a new series with a different storyline. The series involved Mangaka Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball.
For producer Ino Akio, this was something completely new, as he reveals in the interview:
For me, it was the first time that I created a series from scratch, so it was interesting from a teacher’s perspective. It is longer than a film, and we spent a lot of time discussing the story.

A significant feature of Dragon Ball Daima is that production started while the story was not yet fully completed. For Akio, Dragon Ball Daima is therefore as exciting as a weekly manga.
When creating animes, production usually starts only when the story is fully complete. This is often the case because most animes are based on mangas and simply follow the story.

The finale of Dragon Ball Daima remains exciting
What does that leave as a big question? Since the story was not fully planned at the start of production, there might be a surprise waiting for fans at the grand finale. Akira Toriyama was gradually involved more during the course of the anime, so he ended up doing most of it himself.
At first, they did not want to burden him, as Akio narrates. But Toriyama was so excited about the project that he became fully involved and did not just contribute some designs and ideas like he did with Dragon Ball GT.
This means that the final episodes are almost entirely from the original mangaka. Thus, it could be that the grand finale is even more closely tied to the original mangas and resolves further logical gaps – or perhaps reinforces them.
However, it could also be the case that the ending differs significantly from the rest of the anime and may therefore seem somewhat rushed. Since the episodes are limited to a total of 20, it could be that the final episodes need to pick up the pace considerably.
When will there be a resolution to the grand finale? Akio confirmed that the last episode will air on February 28, 2025. This means you should keep an eye on the upcoming episodes. They may differ in content and storytelling from the previous ones.
