In a new game on Steam, you will first step into the roles of Kira and L from the Anime Death Note. The gameplay is strongly reminiscent of Among Us.
What game is this about? We are talking about DEATH NOTE Killer Within, a social detective game on Steam. Here, two teams compete against each other, each led by Light Yagami alias Kira and by L. The two teams pursue different goals.
DEATH NOTE Killer Within was released on November 5, 2024, on Steam as well as for the PS4 and PS5 consoles. A trailer shows how the game works and what sets it apart from the competition.
Cat-and-Mouse Game of Two Super Geniuses
What is Death Note about? One day, the young model student Light Yagami finds the Death Note. With the book, the death of any person can be invoked under two conditions: You need the person’s real name and must know their face.
Driven by ambition to create a perfect world without crime, Light uses the notebook under the alias Kira to kill criminals. However, this draws attention, and soon police investigators are on his trail. They are led by L – an eccentric but very competent detective.
DEATH NOTE Killer Within takes place after L’s appearance. He and Light work together to hold Kira accountable. Of course, Light is not interested in that, but uses his closeness to L in order to eliminate him with the help of the Death Note.
Among Us, but as an Anime Game
The game supports up to 10 players, who are divided into two teams. On one side is Team Kira, consisting of two individuals: Light and one of his fanatic supporters. Team L supports up to 8 players and consists of L and his investigators.
Depending on which team you belong to, your goal is as follows:
- Team Kira has the Death Note and can write the names of both NPCs and investigators in it. If L dies, the game ends immediately.
- Team L works together to uncover Kira’s identity. By sharing information, you get closer to your goal.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, Death Note Killer Within strongly resembles Among Us. However, Death Note is much older and has always lent itself to a game of this kind with its exciting cat-and-mouse game between Kira and L.
Just as Kira and L use aliases, Tsugumi Obha is not the real name of the mangaka behind Death Note. Nobody knows who he (or she) is – but everyone knows why Obha started drawing mangas.
