Destiny 2 – Progress or Stagnation?
What is Destiny 2? Destiny 2 is an MMO shooter developed by Bungie – one or two other studios are rumored to be assisting as well. Destiny 2 is the successor to the wildly successful Destiny (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One).
Destiny made the MMO shooter genre mainstream and, most importantly, brought a lot of success to our site. Destiny achieved this with fantastic gunplay, an infectious loot addiction factor, and countless weapons that all feel a bit different.
Destiny 2 – Now it’s time
Best Case: The best case is that some of the visions Bungie put aside for Destiny 1 will now return with force. Destiny should be more than just a game. It should offer more adventures, become a real hobby. If that succeeds, and if Bungie can maintain the gameplay of Destiny – it could be a hit. Oh, and it would be nice if it came out on PC.
Worst Case: In the worst case, Destiny 2 may be uninspired, look rushed, and simply be “more of the same,” plus “far too small” because Bungie never manages to deliver enough content. Oh, and lag in the Crucible gets worse while shotguns get stronger! Totally horrendous.
How has development gone so far? Behind closed doors. As early as the end of 2014, it was stated: Yes, we are already working on Destiny 2.
Supposedly, a release of Destiny 2 was planned for September 2016 but was rebooted in early 2016 – which would explain the content drought this year. Additionally, there is strong indication that they are orienting themselves on the successful 2015 expansion, “The Taken King” – with more MMO elements than in the base game, a coherent story, and stronger characters.
Update June 2017: Much more is now known about Destiny 2. The release is set for September 6 for PS4 and Xbox One. The title will be released on PC on October 24, 2017. You can find everything about Destiny 2 here.
Mein MMO says: There are warning signs and glimmers of hope behind the project. Currently, we do not know enough about it.
