Star Citizen – Genius or has someone overreached?
What is Star Citizen? Star Citizen is a space simulation that allows the player to take on various roles: trader, miner, pirate – anything should be possible. The game is “crowdfunded” and has raised its budget over the years, allowing the vision of the game to grow. Currently, in mid-November 2016, Star Citizen stands at 132 million US dollars.
Graphically and in terms of complexity, mastermind Chris Roberts plans the big hit, the very big one. They don’t settle for less at Cloud Imperium.
Ushering in a new era of gaming – nothing less will do for Star Citizen
Best Case: The best case is that Star Citizen ushers in a new era of gaming, providing players with a unique universe alongside the real world for years to come in which they can fulfill their science fiction fantasies.
Worst Case: The worst case is that all the parts that make up Star Citizen never come together properly, resulting in an incoherent whole: an overambitious game crushed by its own expectations. Currently, the hype and expectation are so enormous that it would be inadequate if in the end only a “decent” game came out.
How has the development gone so far? The project is gigantic. Critics say: It will never be finished. Fans say: It has only been running for 4 years, which is normal for such a blockbuster; it takes time.
Fans are tightly involved with the game, as the “indie studio” continuously releases information, has a streaming show, several info formats, and even its own convention. Critics are disturbed by the regular sales, where virtual ships are sold for high sums. There is definitely a lot going on, and some invest hours week after week to stay updated on Star Citizen.

Sometimes Star Citizen resembles a cult, sometimes it’s just fantastic
Will Star Citizen be released in 2017? Not as a full release. However, the single-player campaign Squadron 42 should come in 2017 – and an “Alpha/Beta” will surely be in such a state that Star Citizen will already be fun. Skeptics and fans alike will be able to see where the journey ultimately leads.
Mein MMO says: Star Citizen is a phenomenon. With a charismatic leader, fanatical fans, and exorbitant sums requested for virtual ships, it sometimes resembles a kind of cult. On the other hand, there are moments in which they say all the right things, in which you can feel the developers’ passion for their project and for gaming as a whole. Then come amazing trailers and videos, where you just succumb to the vision being created.
Chris Roberts’ ambition to develop something extraordinary is also felt strongly by his employees.
