Sword of a Thousand Truths
The Sword of a Thousand Truths doesn’t actually exist in World of Warcraft – but only in the South Park episode “Make Love, not Warcraft”. In the episode, the kids cannot enjoy WoW because a “lifer” player is killing everything and everyone, ruining the game. Only the weapon “Sword of a Thousand Truths”, which is stored on a USB stick, is said to be able to stop him.
Even though the sword doesn’t exist as such in WoW, you can obtain a sword with the same model in Naxxramas, namely the “Slayer of the Lifeless”. The description even contains the clear reference: “Prophesied by Saltman.”
In Hearthstone, they had the fun of releasing the sword under its actual name and implementing the South Park story. This is because you had to kill a lot of wild boars to then receive the Sword of a Thousand Truths. The sword was a meme card, but if you managed to obtain the sword, you essentially won immediately. Not only does the weapon deal 15 damage – effectively half of an opponent’s hit points per attack – but it also destroys all of the opponent’s mana crystals, leaving them with no resources to defend themselves.
Although the sword originated in South Park, the model is popular in World of Warcraft – and serves as a humorous reminder in Hearthstone.
Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire
Xal’atath started as a relatively unknown artifact weapon in Legion for shadow priests. The blade has its own personality and is said to have passed through many hands of great rulers over the millennia – leaving these individuals at their moments of greatest need.
In Legion, Xal’atath whispered little truths and riddles to the priest character repeatedly before the weapon was ultimately sacrificed.
Years later, the weapon returned and manipulated the heroes into freeing the being from the blade. Xal’atath received an elven body and was endowed with additional power.
The “void” blade was used afterward to destroy the form of the Old God N’Zoth, thereby paving the way for its annihilation. However, there are theories that N’Zoth himself is now trapped in the blade. For the blade has once again – like so often before – seemingly vanished from existence.
Even if the blade is named Xal’atath, the most important aspect of this dagger is the being that once resided within it. The creature Xal’atath is the new antagonist in The War Within, and we have explained her exact story here.
