What kind of film is this? At the end of World War II, Professor Bruttenholm rescues a small demon summoned by the Nazis. He raises Hellboy and establishes a special unit that deals with paranormal events.
Guillermo del Toro has an eye for creature design and grotesque, yet sympathetic figures. This is clearly reflected in Hellboy. The film is entertaining, and Ron Perlman plays a good, grumpy main character.
A sequel also came out here. However, the 2019 reboot unfortunately lacks the charm of Del Toro.
4. The Mask

What kind of film is this? The bank clerk Stanley, played by Jim Carrey, can be described as a classic loser. In his job, he is a feather in the wind, and confrontations he cannot resolve due to his insecure nature. However, his life changes when he finds a green mask that transforms him into the god Loki, along with cartoon-like abilities.
The Mask is a classic Jim Carrey comedy. It features silly humor and a lot of slapstick. Carrey fits perfectly into the lead role, which is not entirely faithful to the brutal comic source material but still creates an entertaining film.
There is also a sequel to the film, but it is not recommended. The story in the second part is dull and Jim Carrey is missing with his unique style.
5. Chronicle

What kind of film is this? The student Andrew Detmer has a tough life. He has no friends at school and is bullied. At home, things are not better: his father is an alcoholic and his mother is seriously ill. One evening, he and two others gain powerful abilities that also amplify his dark side.
Chronicle raises several moral questions about being a superhero. Responsibility, revenge, and personal feelings are explored in the context of newfound powers. Anyone looking for a dark coming-of-age story with superpowers will find it here.
