Call of Duty: Vanguard offers you a range of SMGs for wild close combat situations that are optimal for these fights. But what are good setups for the 6 submachine guns that you can level up and upgrade in Vanguard? We at MeinMMO have looked at all the weapons for you and present a solid setup for each SMG.
What are SMGs? In the multiplayer mode of Vanguard and soon also the new Pacific Warzone, submachine guns (in English, Submachineguns or SMGs) alongside shotguns are the preferred weapons for battles at short and sometimes medium distances. They fire quickly, are handy, and can usually be reloaded quickly.
However, they are often less well-controlled and pull off at longer distances.
Loadouts for all 6 SMGs in CoD Vanguard
Based on an analysis by streamer and CoD expert JGOD, we have compiled a selection of strong SMG setups for Vanguard. For each SMG, there is a setup that makes the weapon powerful.
Setup for the M1928
What is it? This is the good old “Thommy-Gun”, a heavy submachine gun that is indispensable in gangster movies from the 30s.
What does the setup look like? The setup shown here for the Thommy-Gun is based on the Chariot barrel, the 50-round magazine, and hollow-point ammunition. With this, you build a veritable lead-slinger that fires many rounds, rarely needs to reload, and thanks to the ammunition also deals solid damage even if you do not hit the torso or head of the opponent.
It is a solid setup to melt down opponents at close and medium range. The other attachments in this setup are not really essential and can be exchanged at will and adapted to your playstyle.
- Muzzle: M1929 Silencer
- Barrel: Chariot 2.5″ Quick
- Sights: Slate Reflector
- Stock: Chariot Marksman
- Underbarrel: Mark VI Skeleton
- Magazine: Short 8MM 50-Round Drum Magazine
- Ammunition Type: Hollow Point
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Frenzy
- Kit: Quick
Setup for the MP40
What is it? This German submachine gun is solid, reliable, and is among the top weapons in Vanguard. So level it up quickly.
What does the setup look like? With this setup, you create a weapon that performs very well at close and even medium range thanks to its high speed, extended rounds, and large magazine while still hitting accurately.

- Barrel: Krausnick 317MM
- Sights: Slate Reflector
- Stock: Krausnick 33M Folding Stock
- Underbarrel: Carver Foregrip
- Magazine: 9MM 64-Round Drum Magazine
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Brace
- Kit: Quick
Setup for the Owen Gun
What is it? This strange weapon was developed by an Australian inventor named Owen and is actually a “submachine carbine”. The weapon is very solid, has a relatively low rate of fire, but an astonishingly high accuracy at range.
What does the setup look like? The good accuracy of the Owen Gun is further improved with this setup. The barrel allows for precise hits with high damage, and thanks to the type of ammunition, it doesn’t really matter where you hit the opponent. Headshots are even really dangerous with this weapon.
- Muzzle: M1929 Silencer
- Barrel: Hockenson 305MM Precision
- Sights: Nydar Model 47
- Stock: None
- Underbarrel: Carver Foregrip
- Magazine: Short 8MM 60-Round Drum
- Ammunition Type: Hollow Point
- Grip: Polymer Grip
- Perk: Brace
- Kit: Quick
Setup for the PPSH-41
What is it? This is a massive Soviet submachine gun. The weapon has a very high rate of fire, which results in considerable recoil and therefore low controllability. But with the right setup, the PPSH-41 can become a deadly weapon.
What does the setup look like? The goal here is to somehow tame the brutal violence of the weapon. Therefore, the barrel and muzzle are important elements. The magazine is also important as large calibers greatly reduce controllability.
- Muzzle: Mercury Silencer
- Barrel: ZAC 300MM
- Sights: Slate Reflector
- Stock: None
- Underbarrel: M1941 Handstop
- Magazine: 7.62 Gorenko 71-Round Drum
- Ammunition Type: Hollow Point
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Agile
- Kit: Quick
Setup for the Sten
What is it? The Sten is a cheaply produced British submachine gun. The weapon is very compact and lightweight, which makes it hard to control. It is especially strong at close range.
What does the setup look like? This setup makes the weapon a bit more precise and gives it enough rounds with the 50-round drum magazine to survive in longer fights. The extended rounds help at medium range.
- Muzzle: M1929 Silencer
- Barrel: SA 65MM Quick
- Sights: Nydar Model 47
- Stock: None
- Underbarrel: M1941 Handstop
- Magazine: 9MM 50-Round Drum
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Frenzy
- Kit: Quick
Setup for the Type 100
What is it? The Type 100 is a large Japanese submachine gun that looks more like a rifle. It is very precise and deadly. With this weapon, you can land powerful headshots.
What does the setup look like? The Type 100 was extremely OP at release because it dealt extreme damage with large caliber ammunition and the perk Vital. However, this was fixed in the latest patch.
Therefore, this setup aims to achieve solid combat performance at close and medium range. The barrel and the 8mm rounds play a large role in this.
- Muzzle: Mercury Silencer
- Barrel: Shiraishi 374MM
- Sights: Slate Reflector
- Stock: Warubachi Skeleton
- Underbarrel: Mark VI Skeleton
- Magazine: 8MM Short 40-Round Drum
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Cloth Grip
- Perk: Dexterity
- Kit: Pro
