Rank 3: Uglúk
- Subsidiary type: Uruk-hai
Uglúk is a leader of the Uruk-hai. These creatures were bred by Saruman as a kind of elite orc. They have more human traits than other orcs and therefore do not fear the sun. The Uruk-hai, commonly known as Uruks, are generally considered to be the strongest and most dangerous of all orcs.
After the death of the leader Lurtz, Uglúk took command of nearly 100 orcs. As an Uruk-hai, he is already quite strong and dangerous. However, he was not made a leader for no reason. Even for an Uruk, Uglúk is particularly large and fearsome.
With the captured hobbits Merry and Pippin, he embarks on the long road back to Isengard. Here, especially the enormous endurance of the Uruks is demonstrated. They sprint for three days before taking their first rest.
Uglúk is particularly loyal to his master Saruman and does not tolerate disobedience from his ranks. When an orc is foolish enough to disobey his orders, the leader beheads him without hesitation. However, Uglúk does not survive long afterward. He is killed when the orc troop is surprised by the Rohirrim.
In the books, Uglúk also largely takes on the role of Lurtz, which was created specifically for the film. According to this, he would actually place even higher on this list.
