Broxigar the Red
The first rule of war is never to be distracted. The second: Only fools talk too much on the battlefield!
“Broxigar” is probably the name on this list that many World of Warcraft players are not aware of. Yet he is one of the most powerful Orcs to have ever lived – as he accomplished something that no other Orc has.
Broxigar is not only the older brother of Varok Saurfang, who was prominently featured in Battle for Azeroth. He is also a veteran of the first, second, and third wars – he fought and survived in all three “Warcraft” games. However, this heroism has made him lonely and frustrated, as all his comrades fell in battle.
Broxigar thus sought death, but could not find it. Instead, he encountered a time anomaly of the Bronze Dragonflight that brought various heroes from the present time into the past of Azeroth.
Broxigar participated in the War of the Ancients, the conflict that occurred 10,000 years ago when Queen Azshara opened a portal in the Well of Eternity to lead the Burning Legion to Azeroth, resulting in the shattering of the world – into the continents we know today.
Broxigar was an important participant in this battle. Together with the other time-travelers and the heroes of that time (such as Illidan, Tyrande, and Malfurion), he stood against Azshara and the Burning Legion.
When the fight seemed hopeless, he hurled himself into the portal at the bottom of the well and emerged in Argus, the home of the Burning Legion. Here he single-handedly (armed with Cenarius’ axe) stopped the advance of the demons. He defeated so many demons that a whole wall of corpses formed, which the Orc called down and mocked the remaining demons.
Ultimately, even Sargeras, the leader of the Burning Legion and fallen Titan, took notice of Broxigar.
Once again, Broxigar achieved the unthinkable: He was able to inflict a wound on the Titan’s leg before he was ultimately killed.
This wound later helped to briefly break Sargeras’ concentration, seal the portal, and end the attack of the Burning Legion.
Among the Orcs of Azeroth, Broxigar the Red – red from the blood of his enemies – is regarded as legendary. There is no more heroic Orc in the history of World of Warcraft.
