On reddit, a user analyzed the data from 1967 PS4 players. With the data, he created a list showing which PS4 games were particularly popular among a group of gamers in June 2020. And compared to May 2020, one game has just recently made it onto the list.
Where does the data come from? The data is not official information from Sony. The reddit user s0vs0v collected the data and explains in his post where it comes from:
- You add “ps-timetracker” to your PSN friends list. This may take a moment.
- Once a day, you will receive a PSN message containing the statistics of the day.
- At the end of the month, the user combines all this data into a large table.

Large Friends List Provides Interesting Data for PS4
What data was analyzed? The user collected various data on the games. However, the data is based solely on the PlayStation 4 and s0vs0v’s friends list. This includes:
- the name of the game
- how many hours each game was played by the friends list
- the number of players on the friends list who played the game during the period
- how many game sessions were started
- how much time players spent on average per gaming session
How much data was analyzed in total? The data from June 2020 comes from 1967 players (compared to 1280 in May 2020).
The leaderboard features the 100 titles that were most played by these players on the PS4 in June 2020.
Who is behind the data? Every player can contribute to the data with their game times, as there are no criteria for being added to the friends list. However, given the high playtime, it can be assumed that they are more active players rather than casual gamers who regularly play their favorite games.

5th Place – Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V ranks 5th on the list:
- GTA V achieves 4384 play hours with 341 players. During the analyzed period, GTA V had the third most players.
- Players spent an average of 13 hours in the world of GTA V.
- In total, 2963 game sessions were initiated. Players spent around 1:29 hours per game session.
What is GTA V? GTA V Online takes place in a large open world that is regularly expanded with free updates. Each player plays as a criminal, can acquire houses, and team up with other players. Additionally, there is a strong campaign that offers many hours of gangster life and action.
What has happened in the game recently? In GTA Online, the Independence Day is being celebrated with a bonus week. Among other things, there is a particularly annoying motorcycle on sale.
In 4th place is a battle royale shooter that is currently very successful, especially thanks to its new season.
