Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One Release: 2020 Publisher: Techland Business Model: Buy2Play Genre: Action with Co-op Mode
What is Dying Light 2? After the outbreak of a zombie virus, society has collapsed. Your task is to help rebuild a city, fight the undead, and shape society. Your actions and decisions will affect how this society looks.
In Dying Light 2, you explore a large, open world teeming with zombies. To avoid the zombies, parkour elements come into play. You find the most unusual paths, jump from rooftop to rooftop, swing over chasms, and try to avoid the zombies.
You will complete a multitude of missions for the survivors, during which you will experience a story. During the missions, you make decisions that affect whether people can live in peace and harmony or are subjugated.
You can complete the campaign of Dying Light 2 either alone or together with friends in groups of four. Cooperative play requires good teamwork to achieve your goals.
A Different Kind of Zombie Game
What is the development story so far? Already at its announcement at E3 2018, the game drew attention. Dying Light 2 was set to be more than just another zombie game.
The involvement of Chris Avellone, who has previously contributed to stories in games like Baldur’s Gate, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity, gives many hope that the story of Dying Light 2 will be exciting. The co-op mode also piques the interest of some players.
Anything could still happen
What is Dying Light 2 at best? We could expect a zombie game that stands out due to a good story and the possibility of cooperative play, differentiating it from most other genre representatives. That would be just what is needed to bring fresh air to this area.
What is Dying Light 2 at worst? At worst, we could be facing an action game whose parkour elements might be too intrusive and offer less freedom of choice than the announcement suggests.
Dying Light 2 must convince through its story, which should also work cooperatively. Otherwise, the game could quickly fade into obscurity.
