Naturally, some rumors have also emerged in this context. “Will they finally present GTA 6 during E3 2021?”, players are asking, for example.
We want to give you an insight into the hottest rumors about E3 2021, what’s behind them, and how likely they are to come true.
Ubisoft brings new PvP shooter BattleCat, combining 3 franchises
What is the rumor? Allegedly, Ubisoft is working on a PvP shooter called “BattleCat”. The special thing about this shooter is that it is supposed to combine the franchises Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon.
The leak, which was recently spread via Twitter, suggests that BattleCat will be a team-based, competitive first-person shooter. The leaked images show the Wolves from Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the Echelon from Splinter Cell, and the Cleaners from The Division.
There are supposed to be two game modes that make it sound like a sort of military Overwatch:
- In Escort, two teams play against each other. One team tries to escort a machine to a delivery zone.
- In Ringleader, teams must collect rings from fallen enemies. The player with the most rings becomes the Ringleader and can turn them in if they survive for 30 seconds.
How likely is this? A new game that combines several franchises would be conceivable. Ubisoft has not presented anything like this at E3 2021 yet. User Zer0Bytes_, who leaked BattleCat, also accurately predicted new operators in 2020, which were then released in Rainbow Six: Siege.
During the earnings call in May 2021, Ubisoft stated that it will continue to focus on both free-to-play and premium titles in the future. With Division Heartlands, they have already announced a new free game that might gain more attention during E3 2021.
At the same time, players are waiting for more information about the new installment of Rainbow Six. It was supposed to be called Quarantine but was allegedly renamed with the current COVID-19 pandemic and the associated quarantines in mind. Gameplay of the new Rainbow Six has already been leaked here.

GTA 6 will finally be teased at E3
What is the rumor? There has been a lot of buzz around GTA 6 for years. After all, the current installment of the series, Grand Theft Auto V, was released back in 2013. Fans of the franchise have long been demanding a continuation, featuring a new map, improved graphics, a fresh story, and a new online multiplayer.
Hot rumors indicate a setting around GTA: Vice City. This installment was released in 2002 and was well received by fans. In Miami Vice style with neon colors and iconic charts from the 80s, the game left a positive impression on many players.
However, Rockstar Games itself remains silent about the game. Rumors have been circulating that GTA VI will finally be revealed, but so far this has not been the case. According to recent rumors, at least the first teaser for GTA 6 is expected to be released during E3 2021.
- GTA 6: Map as a fan design “The best concept I’ve ever seen”
- Why players are expecting a remake of Vice City before GTA 6
- Netflix says “GTA 6 is coming soon” causing confusion
How likely is this? Rather unlikely. So far, many “Rockstar will announce GTA 6 tomorrow” messages have simply fallen flat (like this one here for the Super Bowl). For every major event, it is said that a teaser could finally be on the way. Even though it seems rather unlikely: If it happens during the 2K press conference, we would be happy to see a little teaser for GTA 6.
Borderlands shows new game featuring the franchise’s secret star
What is the rumor? A supposed game list featuring games from 2K appeared on Reddit. It reportedly includes games that Take 2 is supposed to publish. The attention is drawn to a new installment of the Borderlands franchise, which apparently is set to put the popular NPC character Tiny Tina in the spotlight.
The Borderlands spinoff is referred to by the codename Daffodil and could be called “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” later. Gearbox has already secured the rights to the name. The game is supposed to follow the established style you know from previous Borderlands titles.
However, there isn’t much information about the game yet. Everything we know about the leak regarding Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
How likely is this? It is quite certain that this game will exist and will be announced at E3 2021. Renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier has already confirmed this. His network of sources consists of many insiders and employees from the gaming industry. It’s very likely that he has more information from them already.
Update from June 7 at 6:50 PM: The name “Wonderland” also appears in the teaser website’s data. This means that the title of the unknown game is nearly confirmed (via twitter.com).
Starfield – The full reveal of the RPG
What is the rumor? During Bethesda’s large E3 show, Starfield is expected to receive a lot of attention. It is firmly believed that the game will be presented, as the teaser for the E3 program shows not only the Master Chief from Halo but also a planet that strongly resembles the one from Starfield.
Starfield is expected to be a pure single-player title set in a sci-fi setting. It will be a new IP that is likely unrelated to Bethesda’s well-known game series.
Now, during E3 2021, there are hopes for a major presentation of the game that will primarily aim to answer questions.
- When is the release? Will it really be after 2021, or will old rumors be confirmed that Microsoft wants to release the game in 2021?
- On which platforms will it be released? Will it be exclusive to Xbox?
Bethesda is planning a huge show, likely showcasing Starfield, their next big RPG after Skyrim
How likely is this? It seems quite certain that the Xbox and Bethesda show will also revolve around Starfield. With their own teaser, they have already confirmed this. However, the rumor of a release in 2021 seems unlikely. Expert Jason Schreier believes that Bethesda will tease a release date during E3 and wants to release the game later in 2022 (via Twitter.com).
Switch Pro – The new console will finally be unveiled
What is the rumor? According to rumors, the new Switch Pro is set to be revealed around E3 2021. Experts have said that Nintendo will unveil Switch Pro before E3 2021 so that they can then fully focus on the “software for Switch” during the Nintendo Direct stream as announced.
There were rumors that the Switch Pro should have been unveiled on June 3, but the announcement did not happen.
How likely is this? It is almost certain that Nintendo will unveil the new Switch Pro console in the next few days. But will it happen during E3 2021? Rather unlikely. Nintendo has stated on Twitter that 40 minutes of the Nintendo Direct will focus entirely on software for the Switch, followed by 3 hours of gameplay in the Nintendo Treehouse.
What other rumors are there?
Within the gaming community, there are many rumors that occupy players in the run-up to E3 2021.
- Nintendo could show more about Zelda and introduce a new game, as The Legend of Zelda turns a proud 35 years old in 2021. Remasters of old games or entirely new installments like a sequel to Breath of the Wild are speculated.
- Final Fantasy is reportedly receiving a “Souls-like” action game called Final Fantasy Origin, which is being developed by Team Ninja (via polygon.com). Rumors suggest that the dark FF game will be showcased in more detail during E3 2021.
- Elden Ring will likely not be showcased during E3 2021. It was announced in 2019 and fans are eager for more details on the game. However, industry insider Jeff Grubb revealed in a stream that the game will not be part of E3 2021 (via DualShockers.com). Instead, it could be presented during the Summer Games Fest.
