ESO sends traveling heroes to a multitude of fascinating places with postcard atmosphere. Here are some of our favorite travel destinations that you must not miss! By Gloria H. Manderfeld.
Traveling around Tamriel? No problem: Grab your mount, pick an area you haven’t explored yet and off you go. Because not only will you discover breathtaking scenery, but you’ll also earn experience points just by exploring.
As long as you don’t accidentally run into a world boss on foot, your trip is completely safe: You can easily gallop away from most enemies with a short sprint.
Order the Greymoor Black Edition nowGrathwood
In this region primarily inhabited by Wood Elves lies Elden Root, the capital of the Aldmeri Dominion. It is located in the interior and surrounds what is arguably the largest tree in Tamriel. The rest of the settlement extends between the roots, giving it a naturally grown appearance.
A few steps further stands a temple soaring to great heights. Be sure to visit Elden Root and the temple at night: The lighting effects add a mystical enchanted ambiance to the already fascinating architecture. The rest of Grathwood is also worth a visit.
Eastmarch
If you haven’t acquired the Greymoor DLC yet and still want to satisfy your nostalgia for Skyrim, you should definitely travel to the region of Eastmarch. It showcases heavy Viking flair: Between rugged cliffs, ancient tombs, and gloomy Dwemer ruins rise the gable-heavy, sturdy settlements of the Nords.
The transition from tundra-like surroundings filled with low plants and coniferous trees to snow-covered mountain ranges is unforgettable.
Alik’r Desert
Many ancient secrets lie buried in the Alik’r Desert, primarily settled by the proud Redguards. While the settlements are characterized by their oriental architectural style, the deep desert conveys a genuine sense of vastness and solitude.
Even at night, as the desert’s magic is especially pronounced then. Afterward, it’s time to take a stroll through the largest city of Shield Watch with its colorfully decorated buildings and bazaars.

Vvardenfell
(Morrowind Chapter)
If you enjoyed Bal Foyen and Stonefalls and want to experience mushrooms in house format, you can’t miss a trip to the Dark Elf island of Vvardenfell. Good thing the Morrowind chapter is part of our special issue full version! Because there you not only get to see the biggest mushrooms in Tamriel, but also a comprehensive overview of the cultural diversity of the Dunmer.
Each settlement reflects the style of the ruling house in the area, making the discovery of new places a real experience. You should especially check out the mushroom towers of the quirky, magic-laden Telvanni. The greatest contrast to this is offered by the newly built city of Vivec in the south of the island.
Clockwork City
(DLC Clockwork City)
The most extraordinary place in Tamriel is the completely mechanical Clockwork City built by demigod Sotha Sil. Besides the impressive brass fortress in the walled city, the dark slag city and the rocky, barren landscape in bronze tones attract attention.
Here, all living beings and plants are artificially created! If you love the bizarre and unique, you should also complete the quest line along with all side quests, as you’ll be led to all the special places. Don’t miss the city at dawn: The transition from night lighting to bright day is truly a sight to behold! If you don’t have an ESO Plus subscription, just wait for the next ESO free week and then use that time for a visit.
