The Wide-Loader – A Real Cannon! (Fallout 76)
What kind of weapon is this? The Wide-Loader is a type of grenade launcher from the survival MMO Fallout 76. It fires an explosive projectile that detonates on impact and wounds everything in the vicinity.
The weapon is very powerful and only a few weapons in the game can match the massive damage dealt by a Wide-Loader. But that’s not even the coolest thing about the weapon.
What makes it so crazy? The Wide-Loader is not just any typical grenade launcher! Instead, someone put in the effort to remove an old cannon from a sailing ship and bolt it onto a portable metal frame.
Additionally, the firing mechanism has been changed to an electric trigger with a fire button. So you don’t have to manually ignite the powder with a fuse.
In the game itself, the experience of firing the weapon is marketed as unparalleled, blasting a mutated deer in the face with a real cannon.
And indeed, it’s an exalted feeling to carry around a literal cannon and load massive cannonballs. Curiously, without having to refill powder.
Fun Fact: The weapon bears the date 1820; apparently, it originates from that year. So you’re blasting with a real antique!
How do you get this crazy gun? The Wide-Loader is regular loot that you can occasionally find from particularly strong enemies in Fallout 76. Deathclaws, scourge beasts, and other top creatures often drop a Wide-Loader.
Fallout, by the way, is known for absolutely crazy weapons. Listing them all would make the list too long. You’ll find, for example:
- a syringe gun that can shoot drugs
- the Fat Man with mini-nukes
- a burning kebab knife
- a rail gun (not a railgun!) that nails enemies to walls with rail bolts
- an Alien Blaster
