Naraka: Bladepoint – Something Completely Different
Genre: Battle Royale Fighter | Developer: 24 Entertainment | Platform: PC | Release Date: August 11, 2021 | Model: Pay-to-Play
Naraka: Bladepoint is the exotic entry on this list for several reasons. First and foremost: it’s not a shooter; it’s a fighting game.
Additionally, it’s the newest title on the list and the biggest wild card. Naraka is, however, also the most innovative BR game ranking high on Steam.
You fight and hack your way across the shrinking playing field, and you have heroes with various abilities available that support your personal playstyle.
How big is Naraka? Compared to the other titles on the list, the fighting BR is rather small. On Steam, Naraka averaged over 50,000 concurrent players in January.
For a first impression, we embed a trailer here:
How does Naraka: Bladepoint differ from other Battle Royale games? You find the usual mechanics of a Battle Royale in Naraka, but you don’t primarily rely on raging firearms.
Rather, you control a legendary warrior with a special ability and an ultimate attack that provides a significant advantage when activated but comes with a long cooldown.
You can climb buildings, use grappling hooks to pull yourself toward objects or opponents, and are generally very mobile.
Additionally, there are tons of buffs and equipment you can find or take from defeated opponents. This way, you strengthen your warrior throughout the match, becoming significantly more potent than at the start of a round.
Who is Naraka: Bladepoint for?
Naraka impressively shows that a Battle Royale doesn’t have to be a shooter. However, fans of shooting games will also find enjoyment.
If you generally enjoy a competitive environment to let off steam, then Naraka gives you all the tools to dive deep into the game and continuously improve.
Compared to shooters, the time-to-kill in Naraka is significantly higher, and fights last at least a few seconds. You also don’t have to fear sniper headshots that can take you out in one shot.
For most fights, you go directly into melee combat and create cinematic fight scenes with your combos and deft movements.
If you are drawn to games like “For Honor”, “Dark Souls”, or “Chivalry”, then Naraka will likely also appeal to you.
How tough is the entry? The entry is hard and mean. The gameplay combinations unveil themselves only after many hours.
Naraka: Bladepoint wants you to learn the game, and you will gradually get better. If you have no experience with fighting games, this battle royale will likely overwhelm you.
However, once you achieve your first successes, Naraka will have you hooked. The fluid gameplay provides very action-packed fights, and the better you become, the more exciting and enjoyable it gets.
What problems does the game have? Naraka is the only game on the list that you have to purchase. Additionally, balancing the heroes and weapons is difficult.
Personal Assessment of Naraka: Bladepoint
For this fighting Battle Royale, we have our all-rounder Marko Jevtic ready. Despite his great affection for shooters, he also finds plenty of motivation in other genres and tries out many games – including Naraka.
Personal Assessment Marko Jevtic: For those who prefer to punch than shoot, there is actually only one real option in the Battle Royale space – Naraka: Bladepoint.
Here, acrobatic maneuvers and sword duels take center stage. With heroes, skills, ultimates, and a grappling hook, players and blades dash around the area with frenetic speed.
The game does not make the entry easy, but patience and frustration tolerance pay off: the brilliant combat system in Naraka rewards good timing, quick reflexes, and psychological games with the opponent.
If you’ve always wanted to play something like a mix of Sekiro and Soul Calibur in a Battle Royale format, you will be very happy with Naraka.
