Starfield
What kind of game is this? Much is still not known about Starfield. However, the game has been anticipated for years as the first new IP that Bethesda is launching. Therefore, the expectations from the community are high. We know already that it will be an RPG set in a SciFi setting.
It takes place in our universe 300 years from now. Humanity has found the way to the stars and seems to be traveling at least through our solar system. In the first trailer shown, locations on Mars are at least mentioned in writing.
What are the highlights? According to the developers, it should offer a vast world where you can “[…] be anything you want and go anywhere you want” and be a game with “unprecedented freedom”.
So it might be a kind of Elder Scrolls or Fallout in space, where you can visit various planets and express yourself freely on your spaceship.
Additionally, there will be aliens, or at least their abandoned artifacts. There will also be multiple factions, with you as a player likely belonging to the “Constellation”, a group of space explorers.
When and for which platforms will it be released? After many players feared that after the acquisition by Microsoft, future Bethesda games would only be released for PC and Xbox, this has at least proven to be true for Starfield. The game is set to be released on 11.11.2022 for Windows as well as the next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and S. PlayStation and the older Xboxes will miss out. Additionally, the game will be available in the Microsoft Game Pass on release, further enhancing its value.
Redfall
What kind of game is this? Redfall is a darkly humorous coop shooter from Bethesda. The setting is the small town of Redfall in the US state of Massachusetts. Something has gone horribly wrong, and a cult has unleashed a vampire plague on the town.
Now, horrifying bloodsuckers and their minions are roaming everywhere, and it is up to four cool friends to curb the bloodsucker plague.
What are the highlights? Redfall impresses on several levels. First, the setting is refreshingly funny and comes with a good dose of humor. The vampire apocalypse, which is actually a dark theme, thus turns more into a macabre comedy.
This is also thanks to the four protagonists, who are:
- A sharpshooter with a glowing eye who can become invisible
- A kind of magician who moves things with a ghostly hand and can create portals
- A tinkerer with crazy weapons, such as a sunlight beam and a cute robot
- A nerdy guy who often gets into trouble and, among other things, really wants to know how vampires “taste”
Since the first trailer mentioned “heroes from a diverse list”, it’s quite possible that there are more hero archetypes, each with their own skills and uses.
If you’re thinking of games like Borderlands or the original Fortnite, you should have a good impression of what Redfall is likely to be.
When and for which platforms will it be released? Here, too, it shows that new Bethesda games likely prefer to be released on PC and Xbox, as Redfall will be exclusive to Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X and S. The release date is “Summer 2022”.
Battlefield 2042
What kind of game is this? Battlefield 2042 is the upcoming latest incarnation of the famous Battlefield franchise. It takes place in the near future in the year 2042. There, climate change, natural disasters, resource scarcity, and the bankruptcy of Germany have led to a global crisis in which Russia and the USA are fiercely at war.
Therefore, you will fight the massive battles familiar from Battlefield not only on barren battlefields in the countryside but also in powerful metropolises full of skyscrapers.
What are the highlights? Those who have seen the previous trailers of Battlefield 2042 can quickly recognize how intense it will likely be. The battles will be, as usual in Battlefield, extremely intense and action-packed.
Even the skyscrapers can be extensively destroyed, and the massive deployment of vehicles makes our MeinMMO author Phillip Hansen shudder at the thought of being a simple soldier in this inferno.
Additionally, the usual soldier classes are included, of which we already know some details.
When and for which platforms will it be released? On October 22, 2021, Battlefield 2042 is scheduled to be released for the platforms PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series S and X. Early access begins on October 15.
Halo Infinite
What kind of game is this? This is the long-awaited latest installment in the Halo series and thus a first-person shooter in a SciFi setting. You play as the famous Master Chief again and explore another ring world with him. This time it is even bigger than ever in the series.
In Halo Infinite, a distinction is made between the multiplayer and campaign parts. The former is a free-to-play title.
What are the highlights? In single-player mode, you explore another ring world as Master Chief and fight enemies there with an arsenal of futuristic weapons. Additionally, you will pursue mysteries, including the disappearance of the AI Cortana.
The multiplayer mode offers large maps full of action. Various grapple hooks, weapons with ricocheting projectiles, and all sorts of vehicles come into play.
On high-end PCs and the new Xbox generation, Halo Infinite is expected to run at a constant 120 FPS.
When and for which platforms will it be released? The developers have not yet specified a concrete release date. However, it is mentioned that it will be during the “Holidays 2021”. This means that both the campaign and the multiplayer mode of Halo Infinite are expected to finally be released between fall and Christmas 2021. The game will be released for PC, Xbox Series X and S, and also for the old Xbox One.
Forza Horizon 5
What kind of game is this? Like the previous part of the Horizon series, Forza Horizon 5 is also an open-world racing game that aims to appeal to casual and multiplayer fans. You drive a sleek car around a massive open world, exploring the area and completing challenges.
What are the highlights? As in Horizon 4, it is necessary to explore almost an entire country. This time, Forza Horizon 5 takes place in Mexico in Central America. You can freely drive around there and explore the diverse landscape, including wide steppes with sand storms, jungles, beaches, and cities like Guanajuato. There is even a real volcano coming!
You will drive more than 500 different vehicles. Additionally, there is an editor where you can create your own minigames and challenges and an AI assistant that can easily assign you teammates.
For exploration fans, there is also a career mode that lets you explore the world and even meet special characters.
Another major highlight of Forza Horizon 5 is the phenomenal graphics, which impress even graphics skeptics and MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus.
