Black Desert (March 3, 2016)
Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One | Setting: Fantasy | Developer: Pearl Abyss| Payment Model: Buy2Play
What is Black Desert? In the sandbox MMORPG Black Desert, everything revolves around action-packed battles, beautiful graphics, and your freedom in the game. You can:
- Level endlessly and farm equipment
- Setup your own house
- Build a network of workers to create production chains and earn gold
- Dive into PvP with the guild
- Casually level various life skills, including fishing or hunting.
In contrast, story and quests play a rather secondary role. However, with their help, you can progress well at the start and get to know the MMORPG at your own pace.
A highlight of Black Desert is the detailed character editor, where you can change your avatar at will. You have 19 different classes to choose from, of which we have selected the best for beginners in 2020. In the endgame, however, you will not find raids and dungeons, but you need to set your own goals.
How has the game developed? Black Desert was released in Korea in July 2015, about 9 months earlier than in the West. Since its release, the MMORPG has developed well and has received several new areas, classes, and gear levels.
Just this year, the new class Gardia, a new area around fluffy otters, musical instruments for the Shai, and the season servers that are particularly interesting for newcomers were introduced. On these, you level up particularly quickly, get good equipment, and PvP is disabled. After the season, you can continue playing on a “normal” server.
In 2019, Black Desert was also released for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, between which there is now also crossplay.
Is it still worth starting the game? Black Desert will continue to be expanded by the developer Pearl Abyss. The Hashashin, the next class for the MMORPG, has already been announced.
Furthermore, Black Desert has boomed this year, both in Korea and here on Steam. There should be plenty of players available.
However, you should be aware that you need to set your own goals in the game, and much of it is tied to grind and sometimes chance.
