What makes XCOM 2 so good?
- Metro GameCentral – 100 points: “An exceptionally good expansion that comes with a mountain of new content that specifically addresses the few shortcomings of the original.”
- GameInformer – 93 points: “War of the Chosen has so much content that it could almost be called XCOM 3. Each mission introduces a new enemy, mission type, or environment, keeping the game fresh for dozens of hours. The war against the intertwined systems of the Chosen could overwhelm new players, but strategy freaks willing to master the nuances will be rewarded with one of the most rewarding strategy games in years. I don’t know how Firaxis could design a more complex yet enjoyable strategy game, but I can’t wait for them to try.”
- IGN Italia – 90 points: “An old school expansion that improves the game in ways no DLC could achieve. XCOM 2 was great from the start, and the new content brings it straight to the Olympus of turn-based strategy games.”
Why is it poorly received by players? In players’ reviews, it is frequently noted that there were some bugs and glitches in the game at release. Additionally, the performance of the game on PS4 has worsened due to this expansion. The performance issues as well as the glitches were often the reason for the lower user ratings.
“Fantastic new mechanics, enemies and allies. I would give the game a 9 or 10, but the abysmal performance and glitches ruin the experience […].” writes user Metempsychosis on Metacritic.
