Attack on Titan
- Release year: 2013
- Episodes: 94
- Available to stream on: ADN, Crunchyroll
What is it about? Humanity has lived for many years behind 3 enormous walls. Outside lurks a great danger in the form of titans. They are huge, man-eating beings without recognizable intelligence. One day, however, a colossal titan appears, larger than the wall, and breaks a hole in it. As a result, titans flood the city.
The protagonist Eren Yeager has to watch as his mother is eaten. He vows revenge on the titans and joins the Survey Corps. This is a military unit that fights outside the walls and explores new territories.
Why can it only be watched once? The series starts as survival horror but suddenly switches genres in the middle of the anime. The series suddenly becomes a political thriller. This switch is no longer so shocking when you already know what happens.
Additionally, there are several traitors whose revelations happen so casually and suddenly that it almost feels like comedy. This effect also disappears upon the second viewing. While the second viewing reveals the obvious clues that were present before, it’s probably not worth it for most to watch another 94 episodes because of that.
