This week focused on some new MMORPGs that have shown gameplay or revealed details about the release date. Additionally, Guild Wars 2 will be changing its entire release plan, and WoW has nerfed the latest raid.
The highlights of the week:
- Corepunk will be a mix of WoW and League of Legends. Now, an hour of new gameplay has been released, along with new information about the crafting system.
- Palia will be a kind of Animal Crossing but as an MMORPG. The developers have now introduced various NPCs in more detail with whom you can interact and build relationships. This is one of the most important features for the MMORPG.
- Throne and Liberty is definitely set to release in the first half of 2023. The developers revealed this in the latest quarterly earnings call. Since there will only be a global version, this refers not only to the release in Korea but also to us.
The stir of the week: Mike Ybarra, the head of Blizzard, has a good reputation among employees and especially the community. Now he has made 3 statements that have not gone down well and is causing unrest again.

What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- WoW has released significant nerfs for the current raid boss Raszageth. We also reported on a player who reached level 70 without ever leaving the starter ship. Additionally, there was a confession from Blizzard that you will not get better in PvP, but the numbers are just being manipulated upwards.
- Guild Wars 2 has announced significant changes to the release plan and now wants to regularly bring smaller expansions. Moreover, there should be a major patch every quarter.
- ESO has released a roadmap for 2023 and announced new, endless dungeons. We reveal what is currently known about these endless dungeons.
- In Final Fantasy XIV, there are currently discussions about a traditional outfit of the Sami that they would like to see removed from the game.
- Lost Ark has introduced a new continent as the first major highlight of 2023. However, this continent is not well received. We also reveal how you can drastically reduce loading times in Lost Ark with just one line of text.

What happened with the minor MMORPGs:
- New World has announced a new world event where you must kill giant cyclopses for special equipment. There was also a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of new areas (via New World).
- Aion Classic is set to launch in March 2023. In the new Q&A, the developers revealed that they want to bring new content like in Korea afterwards (via Gameforge). This fulfills the wish expressed by our editor Alex in a column: I used to love the MMORPG Aion – something will happen in 2023 that gives hope for a big comeback.
- Anyone currently playing an MMORPG from Gamigo on Steam – such as Rift or Trove – must connect their Steam account with the Glyph account. This is said to supposedly enhance the “gaming experience” (via Steam).
- Embers Adrift, the old school PvE MMORPG, has announced a new zone with new enemies and a dice mini-game (via Embers Adrift).
- Old School RuneScape has introduced a new feature. You can now change the size of skill icons (via Old School RuneScape).
- Lord of the Rings Online brings a stone wall that became a meme in the game, now as a housing item (via MassivelyOP).
- Wild Terra 2 has released a new patch with new quests, daily tasks, and combat adjustments (via Steam).
- With Fantasy World Souls, a new J-MMORPG has launched on Steam. However, it features an old-school graphic style (via Steam).
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- A new MMORPG with shooter elements has been announced with Ashfall. The post-apocalyptic setting looks very interesting.
- What is the status of Crimson Desert, the new MMO from Pearl Abyss? We took a look at the situation.
- Until Sunday evening at 11:00 PM, you can test the new MMORPG Past Fate for free in its Alpha (via Steam). Past Fate is a medieval MMORPG with sailing functions and housing.
- The Embracer Group (Neverwinter, Star Trek Online) has stated that it is working on 5 new Lord of the Rings games. Gollum and the survival game Return to Moria are already known. What the other 3 titles will be is unknown, but they have some MMOs as well as mobile games in their portfolio (via MassivelyOP).
