Legendary armors and weapons are the main loot in the co-op shooter Outriders. They have a special appearance and particularly powerful mods that can be combined. MeinMMO shows you how to find and farm these legendaries best.
What is legendary equipment? This is the highest level of loot that you can find in Outriders. They are particularly powerful thanks to their rank-3 mods and also offer unique designs.
Legendary armors also have set bonuses that allow for particularly powerful combinations. Three parts are needed per set. After the story ends, a large part of the endgame consists of farming legendaries and refining your builds.
Usually, the mods of the weapons also complement each other well, allowing each weapon to favor a specific playstyle.
What makes rank-3 mods so sought after? They only appear on legendary weapons and armors and have particularly powerful traits. Through the crafting system of Outriders, modifications of equipment parts can be removed when dismantled.
This unlocks the respective mods for crafting and allows them to be applied to other items. Legendary mods can thus be combined or even attached to epic gear. To build the most powerful combinations in Outriders, you cannot avoid collecting legendary loot and its mods.
We summarize where you can get your legendaries in this guide. We will show you some farming methods and also ways to guarantee to find legendary equipment.
Modifications are a crucial factor in Outriders. They are divided into three levels; the higher the level, the more extensively these mods affect an item. However, rank-3 mods are reserved for legendary weapons and armors and are usually particularly good.
But even at the beginning of the game, mods can be very practical. Here you will find the 10 best weapon mods you should use at the start of Outriders.
1. Farming legendaries from quests
Overall, there are 30 quests scattered across all areas up to the end of the story. You need to play through the story of Outriders almost completely to finish these quest lines.
Historian quests
Historian quests send you on the search for lost items that originated from earth and are now scattered across Enoch. You unlock these quests in the first chapter of the story.
The missions always follow the same pattern: you enter an area, have to defeat several waves of enemies, and retrieve the desired item. The quests don’t take much time since there are almost never long distances to cover.
Hunt quests
In hunt quests, you must eliminate deadly creatures and deliver their trophies. These become available in chapter 5 of Outriders when you reach Trench Town.
Compared to historian missions, you will face more enemies, and at the end of each one, a powerful beast awaits you.
While in some of the quests you don’t have to walk far, there are indeed some quests here that are divided into sections. However, the time required is not particularly high either.
Wanted quests
In wanted missions, you need to take out dangerous types for whom a bounty has been placed. These are usually types who, like you, are equipped with special powers.
The wanted quests follow the same pattern as the other mission types. However, there are some spots that could be a bit tricky due to hostile snipers.
In the endgame, this no longer pays off
The missions outlined above are primarily suitable for completing your mod collection. They are only partially suitable for the endgame. Because during the story, you can reach a maximum world level of 15. At that level, items drop at level 42. However, this is not the maximum.
If you want to quickly reach world level 15, check out our guide: Farming world levels in Outriders – This is how you get better loot quickly
What is the actual maximum level for equipment? Although players can only reach a maximum of level 30, the limit for weapons and armors is level 50 and thus significantly higher. This will later be possible through the expeditions.
With enough materials, you can also level up legendary parts to level 50 through crafting. However, this is an expensive affair, as leveling up costs considerable resources as the level progresses.
Therefore, at a certain point, you cannot avoid the following endgame activity.
2. Finding legendaries in expeditions
What are expeditions? This is the endgame activity of Outriders. It is unlocked after completing the main story. These are rotating missions where you are sent to different areas.
This is how they work: In the expeditions, the world levels are no longer decisive, but rather the challenge levels. These determine how high the enemy level, the number of enemies, and the overall difficulty in the expeditions are.
- Each expedition has a bronze, silver, and gold time
- The faster you are, the better the reward at the end will be.
- Expeditions vary in their scope and timings
- Only four expeditions are active at the same time
- They rotate with the completion of an expedition or restarting the game
- They are the only way to obtain equipment beyond level 42
The goal of the expedition is to reach landing capsules. In them, a ton of loot awaits you, depending on how successfully you complete it. You can find out more about the expeditions in our overview: Expeditions are the endgame of Outriders – Here’s how they work
Which expeditions are best for farming legendaries? This is hard to say. Depending on the class played, weapon setup, and build, this can vary greatly. However, some expeditions seem to be a bit easier than others. These include:
- Chemical Plant
- Colosseum
- Stargrave
- Booming Business
- The Arches of Enoch
These expeditions are well-suited due to their enemy spawns and time requirements and are also good for getting into expeditions. However, it remains to be seen how this will develop further. With update 1.05, the timer times were already revised.
Some expeditions require landing capsule resources to play them. As of now (April 20), they have no advantages over the other missions. So avoid these until you can afford them comfortably.
Other sources for legendary equipment
Throughout the game, there are a few other ways to find legendary items. However, you can only get them once per character.
Here’s how you can definitely get legendaries:
- World levels: From world level 12 to 15, you receive a legendary weapon as a reward with each ascent, totaling four.
- Side missions: There are some side missions that reward you with legendary weapons at the end. This includes “The Legacy of the Outriders”, “Big Iron”, and “Abandoned Chapel”.
- Merchants: Once you unlock the expeditions, the character Tiago in your camp offers a shop with legendary items. The offer is fixed, and you need landing capsule resources to buy them. You get those for successfully completing expeditions.
- Boss drops in the story: Throughout the main story, you will encounter several bosses. Some will reward you with a legendary weapon when you defeat them. This includes the Chrysalid mutant from chapter 7 “Forest Enclave”. There’s also a legendary weapon in chapter 12 after defeating the boss.
Elite enemies were popular in the demo; what about now?
In theory, you also have the chance to get legendary items from elite enemies. In the Outriders demo, it was already possible to farm legendary weapons early in the first chapter. However, the chance is very low. If you don’t feel like shooting through hordes of enemies, it remains a possible option.
Especially the story point “Find the origin of the light in the distance” in the chapter “Dunes” is well-suited. The first confrontation throws a so-called Warlord elite enemy practically right in your face. Kill him as quickly as possible, then let the other enemies overwhelm you.
However, this is not advisable if you have not yet reached world level 15 and want to achieve that. Dying will reduce your progress in world rank, which not only defines the difficulty level but also drop chances and loot level.
Is it worth it? The YouTuber DPJ tested this method and defeated the Warlord 200 times in a row. He ended up with 168 rare, 167 epic, and 1 legendary item (via YouTube). He took one hour and 42 minutes to do this.
This method is therefore only very limitedly recommended for legendary items. However, in terms of materials and other equipment, it can definitely be worth it, but as a farm spot for legendary items, it’s less suitable.
There is also the problem that the maximum item level is 42, just like in the other missions. So for the endgame, it’s mainly worth looking at the resources in terms of scrap and titanium that come along.
