The first beta of the highly anticipated MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO 2) is approaching. However, it has only been announced for the USA, so it is still unclear whether we in Europe can participate. Additionally, the beta is currently only planned for Xbox One.
What is Phantasy Star Online 2? It is a classic MMORPG that mixes science fiction with fantasy.
- You create your hero from the races Humans, Newman (biologically engineered elves), CAST (androids), and Deuman (a kind of mutant)
- As classes, you have Hunter, Ranger, Force, Braver, Bouncer, Challenger, Fighter, Gunner, and Techer available
- It is possible to switch classes
- The combat system is active. This means you need to dodge, attack yourself, and keep your hero moving
- There is no large open world, but rather larger and smaller play areas that the quests lead you to
- You will be supported by the so-called Mag. This is a kind of pet.
- In arenas, you will compete in PvP battles
A Beta is Coming
When does the beta start and how long will it last? The beta begins on February 8 at 2 AM. It will last until February 10 at 7:59 AM.
For which platform does the beta start? The beta has been announced for Xbox One. Phantasy Star Online 2 is also expected to be released for Windows 10.
It may also be possible that the MMORPG will ultimately be released for PlayStation 4 – but that is still unclear.
Can anyone participate in the beta? Not really. The beta has been announced for the USA and Canada. Therefore, it does not appear in the Xbox Insider Program for Europe.
However, you can try to register on pso2.com using a US Xbox Live account, but being accepted is not guaranteed. If you set your Xbox One to the USA region, the PSO 2 beta might appear in your Xbox Insider Hub under games.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is Already Starting – No Wipe Anymore
Will there be a wipe at the end of the beta? On Twitter, the developers explained that there will be no wipe. You will carry over your progress into the open beta and from there into the release version.
When does the open beta start and when is the release? Both are currently unknown. First, this initial beta needs to be completed before further dates can be announced.
When are we up? This is also currently not known. Presumably, Europe will be addressed once the release in the USA and Canada is completed.
