The SF role-playing game Starfield (PC, Xbox) is set to continue the series of successful blockbusters for which Bethesda is known in the RPG genre. After a presentation at the Xbox Showcase, the hype begins. Now, a first journalist got to take a look.
Who got to play?
- IGN journalist Ryan McCaffrey had the chance to play Starfield for an hour to gather more information in preparation for an interview with Todd Howard, the Game Director.
- He shared his experiences in a video about the Xbox Showcase (via youtube). A Twitter user analyzed the video and added screenshots.
- Given Bethesda’s proximity during an “exclusive preview”, one can assume that the journalist took a rather favorable look at Starfield. No scathing criticism is to be expected.
“Deep game” with “insane” dimensions
This is what the journalist says: The journalist comes to the conclusion: “People will play this for years – this is no joke.”
- He says the size and perspective of Starfield are “insane”, and it feels that way when playing. The game feels deep.
- There is no multiplayer in Starfield, but expansions for single-player are planned – the opposite of what GTA Online does.
- The journalist compares it to a mix of Fallout and Skyrim.
- Another comparison is “No Man’s Sky” in a Bethesda RPG version
- He is not sure if alien races are in the game.
- The city feels like a mix of Oblivion and Mass Effect, with lots of NPCs, districts, and a subway.
- Both melee combat with an axe and spaceship combat are described as “good”.

✅️ Feels incredible deep and game doesn't feel shallow

- It is also said that the missions and districts are “handcrafted” and will keep players engaged.
Currently sounds like everything one wishes for in a Bethesda RPG. It is repeatedly emphasized that it is a “passion project” of Todd Howard, who has been talking about it for over 20 years.
The parallels to “familiar Bethesda” games are great. It is a game like Skyrim that you not only play but live in.
Let’s see how closely the game will align with these initial, euphoric descriptions. Such “game gems” that have nothing to criticize are rare. The last two were perhaps Elden Ring and Red Dead Redemption 2. It would be time for another blockbuster.
When is it coming out?? Starfield will be released on September 6 for Xbox and PC. There will be no version for PS4 and PS5 after Microsoft bought Bethesda.
The presentation of Starfield sparked a discussion mainly among fans of Star Citizen. Some believe that Starfield could offer the key elements that they hope for from Star Citizen, which continues to be delayed:
