The global launch of Tarisland is scheduled for June 21, 2024, but the MMORPG from Level Infinite and Tencent can already be played in China. MeinMMO reveals how the community feedback has turned out so far.
Since when can Tarisland be played in China? On June 12, 2024, the developers announced on the official Discord channel that the MMORPG from Level Infinite and Tencent has been released for the Chinese market. According to the officials, Tarisland quickly climbed to the top of the app charts.
Additionally, the developers celebrated via X.com that more than five million interested players have registered in advance for the MMORPG before the global launch on June 21, 2024. At the end of April, there were only one million pre-registrations. Thus, the community was able to unlock all milestones of the related event, including a unicorn mount (see below).
The latest trailer of Tarisland prepares you for the launch:
How much Pay2Win is there at the launch of Tarisland?
The developers of Tarisland emphasize that there will be differences between the Chinese and the western version of the MMORPG. For instance, Level Infinite is removing the gender lock, so you can also play female paladins (via X.com) or male mages (via X.com) if you wish.
Nevertheless, the basic gaming experience is expected to be comparable. Some western genre fans have already been able to play the Chinese launch version and share their first impressions with the community (via reddit).
What is the feedback on Tarisland so far? After the Pay2Win shitstorm during the beta, many genre fans are eager to know how fair the monetization will be at launch. Several testers emphasize that they have not found any or hardly any Pay2Win elements in the Chinese version so far.
- The best equipment pieces currently seem to be available only through raids, which are not tradable.
- The second-best clothes are available through dungeons, professions, and trade (with the possibility of real-money trading in Tarisland).
- In PvP arenas, equipment does not matter, as the values of all participants are adjusted to one level. In PvP, you can also rank up, which rewards you with value bonuses for the PvP content.
- So far, only cosmetic items seem to be offered in the Chinese in-game shop.
- The premium currency can also be obtained by exchanging it for so-called “store coins”.
jobinski22, who has brought five classes to levels 15 to 25, summarizes his impression as follows (via reddit): “As for the moment, it seems to be an entertaining game that does not require spending money.”
killerkonnat adds (via reddit): “In the past, it was definitely possible to buy BiS equipment because the raid gear [editor’s note: was available in the auction house], but also that damn dust, with which you could develop passive effects 10 to 50 times faster.
Both of these have disappeared, so the amount of Pay2Win you have access to by buying in-game gold is somewhere on the same level as in WoW.”
What else is praised and criticized? The basic gaming experience is praised by several reddit users. In particular, the dungeons are said to be “fun and interesting” (via reddit). Since there is a loot cap, you cannot farm the instances infinitely, which is said to make Tarisland appealing for casual players.
Some criticism is directed at the PvP ranking system. Characters with high ranks are said to be so strong due to the unlocked value bonuses (and 80,000 health points) that newbies (with 5,000 health points) have no chance. However, a user acknowledges as direct feedback that you can quickly climb the ranks to achieve comparable values.
Tarisland does not seem particularly optimized for mobile devices so far, which may be due to the developers’ greater focus on the PC version. The auto-combat typical for mobile games does not exist at all. An auto-run feature can be unlocked after some time. Curiously: Tarisland is looking for the best players: Offers €450 if you can defeat the toughest boss quickly.
