What is Hogwarts Legacy? In Hogwarts Legacy, we travel into the world of Harry Potter. However, the open-world adventure is set in the 19th century, long before the well-known characters from the Harry Potter books and films make their appearance.
The players create their own character, choose their house, and attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They experience the normal daily life of a student: occasionally attending classes, learning new spells, brewing potions, drinking butterbeer in Hogsmeade, and taking flying lessons on the broomstick.
Magical beasts, dark magic, and a large, open game world are also part of Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy was already controversial before its release. The creator of the wizarding universe, J.K. Rowling, made controversial statements regarding transgender individuals. This led to calls for boycotts against the game.
Despite the boycott, Hogwarts Legacy has succeeded with top ratings.
The books and films about Harry Potter are an important part of my childhood. I was enchanted by Hogwarts Castle from the very first moment. The building offers so many corridors and so much attention to detail that I did without fast travel in my first play hours.
Hogwarts Legacy also offers many different side activities that entice with interesting rewards. Especially Merlin’s puzzles were varied brain teasers and capturing the fantastic beasts was a lot of fun, even if the reasoning for capturing them is a bit flimsy!
Many of the side activities I haven’t pursued too much because so much was offered. Designing the habitats for the captured animals was completely neglected. A food bowl and some toys had to suffice, as I had to save the world from a great evil.
A particularly nice gimmick for me was learning more about the Harry Potter world and the various races.
For whom is Hogwarts Legacy worth it? Fans of the Harry Potter universe cannot miss this game. While Harry, Ron, and Hermione are not present in the game, every fan has likely imagined strolling through Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. You should also enjoy an interesting combat system and be able to overlook weaknesses in the story and enemy variety. The RPG also offers plenty of side activities that can keep players engaged for a long time.
