1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Developer: CD PROJEKT RED | Release date: May 18, 2015 | Steam page: Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
What is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? In the game, the player takes on the role of the famous witcher and mercenary Geralt of Rivia. Before you lies an open world inviting exploration: ruins, heights, and shipwrecks are all waiting to be discovered.
The setting is a dark fantasy world and places you in combat against various monsters. You have various weapons as well as potions and combat magic at your disposal. Improve your skills and equipment with the rewards you receive on your journey.
In your free time, you can also spend your hard-earned money on card games, horse racing, or fistfights.
Your decisions also have consequences in the game, and there are multiple endings. Plan each step thoughtfully. Furthermore, you can carry over your save from the second part of the series, which also impacts the story.
If you’re still not sure whether The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the right game for you, you can find a detailed review here.
The Witcher III is one of the great milestones of RPGs for me. Even though the open world may be overwhelming at first, and you look puzzled when a level-20 giant suddenly knocks you down at level 5, it fits perfectly into the world.
The game is carried by its grand story with different paths. Witcher III can be quite brutal and unforgiving, and it does not shy away from dark themes – this is definitely not for people who prefer soft RPG entertainment. You might find a resurrected stillborn with demon eyes wandering in the front yard or a witch dripping with pus devouring children’s fingers. And sex on stuffed unicorns is also part of it.
This harmonizes well with the varied combat system. Great freedom in choosing “spells” and equipment ensures that each witcher Geralt plays a little differently.
You don’t need to have played the predecessors, by the way. The first hours summarize quite well what happened and ensure that you can lose yourself in the world without hours of reading summaries.
Who is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt worth it for? Fantasy fans will definitely find value in the game. With the gripping story and extensive options that the game offers, you can spend numerous hours as Geralt without getting bored.
